Wow! This is really awesome! Thanks for all the hard work you're putting into this. What I really think should be added is enderman, drops (the floating things that you spit out, bocks drop, you lose when you die, etc.), armor, a way to make blocks "break", and particle effects (enderman teleport particles, nether portal particles, fire, smoke, etc.). I also think that a grass block that looks like the in-game ones would be nice, and making the blocks less "shiny" when light hits them would be good too. Thanks!
Before asking for blender related help with anything, make sure you look through the first handful of pages in this thread. A lot of things are asked and answered (I tried make troubleshooting easier by using screenshots with annotations to help clarify any questions that were asked). If you've combed through the first several pages of the thread and still cannot figure something out, you might want to try googling your blender question as well. There is an unbelievable amount of tutorials, step by step guides, etc related to blender 2.5 and all of it is very easy to find.

UPDATE: I'm changing things up in this thread. I dont have any time to personally work on updating the blends that I've made. However, I know that a lot of you guys are still itching for more. And it seems that a decent amount of people on here know their way around blender enough to make their own additions, and even their own blends from scratch.
So lets use this topic as a place to swap and share blendfiles relating to minecraft. And as a place to help eachother with animation, modelling or any blender + minecraft related projects.
If anyone posts something they would like included in the OP, then let me know and I will try to add links here and there. If you haven't got any dropbox space, or just need somewhere to host your blend, let me know. I'm more than happy to share my dropbox space.
-----
For anyone interested, here is where I left off on updating to 1.8 (not much going on here, the main thing that I got worked out was the scale. Everything in this blend is the proper scale for the world of minecraft.) Anyone interested is in picking up where I left off is more than welcome to do so, you don't even need to credit me to work off any of my blends. All I ask is that you let me know, so that I can stop trying to find time to actually finish my blend.
-----
All the critters and humanoids have been rigged and textured for Blender 2.58+
I recommend downloading the blend and using Link/Append in a new blender file to grab the rigs. Of course, you can just use the file itself, I just always found it handier to append a file that was already set up the way I like it.
A blank blend with just a pair of rigs can be had from here. One of the rigs is set up with normal mapping (it really gives a nicer look to the models) while the other is flat.
Update 8/03/11
Just a really quick update, I haven't had a chance to really work on adding a nice face details mesh. Unfortunately I've been insanely busy with work lately. Having said that, I went ahead and threw together a really simple blend with a face details mesh. Bare in mind, this is the product of about five minutes of blending. I'm only sharing this for those that are really desperate to get their hands on a face details mesh, as I don't know when I will have a chance to update the main blend.
This blend isn't guaranteed to be perfect. The face details mesh is uv mapped to the proper section of the char.png, though in this file I was using a details png from the skinedit app. You can just switch the image in the textures panel to your character png to use your own details. Also take note that if you aren't using face details then dont bother with this blend, the transparency options arent tweaked properly at this point, so it doesn't look quite right with a skin that has no head details.
Also someone mentioned getting a piston in the blend. For now I've got a piston in its own blend. Remember to use LINK/APPEND to get this into the blend you are already using. The piston works by either using the control sphere to extend it, or by using the NLA clip I've setup already. If you are going to move it around, Just make sure you shift select the top and bottom sections before dragging. You can leave the control sphere where it stands, it will function from anywhere.
The NLA editor is probably something new to alot of you, its basically a saved animation clip that can be scaled, copied, moved, etc. Some info on it is here. When you open this blend, you will see it is already in the animation display with the NLA editor on the left.
Once again this is just the result of five minutes of free time, bugs may be running rampant, I don't know :smile.gif: For now its better than nothing, and of course when work starts slowing down again I will work on compiling all these sub-blends into one monster of a blend!
Another quick update, Stairs, slabs and fences *added pressure plates 9/10/11* (with an array generating fence, use the modifiers tab to grow or shrink the array fence):
For those of you interested in exporting chunks of minecraft worlds into blender, and importing blender models into a minecraft world here is what I use:
Arrow and Bow by CptnFordo rcub3161 has been working on adding new blocks, at this point he has combined all of my subblends and added the following:
Note Block
Juke Box
Huge Brown Mushroom (Top)
Huge Brown Mushroom (Edges)
Huge Brown Mushroom (Sides)
Huge Red Mushroom (Top)
Huge Red Mushroom (Edges)
Huge Red Mushroom (Sides)
Huge Mushroom Stem
Snowy Grass
Melon
Mycelium
Brick Half Block
Cobble Stone Half Block
Stone Brick Half Block
You can get his file here:Blend
I tried to download it but it won't work. It shows up as a random sequence of numbers and sighs. please change the downloads to mediafire.

You need to right click and select "save target as" or "save link as." This is a browser issue that affects some people and not others. I dont want to move it to mediafire or any of the pop-up ridden ad sites, drop box is a direct download and despite the random browser issue its actually a lot more convenient.
It's fine but how can I change the thing that makes the hand go round if you change the position of it D: I'm not very good with blender
Not really sure what you mean... If you refering to bones then you can get specific control by selecting any bone and press "R" to rotate it, "G" to grab/move it. After this you can press "X" "Y" or "Z" to rotate or move it along a specific axis.
Your blender files are great but I have 1 question.
Is it possible to import the rig whit the helmet and a facial rig into the blender file with al the blocks?
If it is, the how do I do that?
This is easy to do, just open the file with the blocks and then go to file - Link/Append and select the Objects from the blend file with the facial rig. The instructions for this are in the OP I believe.
I have another question.
It renders verry slowly. Is there any way to speed that up?
On my pc it renders in four seconds However I understand that not everyone has a pc built specifically for 3D modelling/rendering. There are several options you can toy with to drop the render time drastically. Under the "World Tab" you will find Ambient Occlusion, Enviromental lighting and Indirect lighting are all ticked on. Disabling these will improve your performance quite a bit, but you will also be sacrificing some of the glowing and light emitting effects.
Under the Render tab you will find everything else you will need to speed things up. Everything under this tab is there to speed up rendering in some form or manner. The options under the Shading section can be unticked for increased performance, some will affect the output quality more than others. Under the performance section you can tweak tile sizes, or try the different acceleration structures. The default setting isn't always fastest here, You can disable compositing as well. The key is really in layers but that is one long explanation I dont have time to give
You can easily find some pretty solid tutorials via google, but you should start here at the official manual
The other recomendation I have is to go to graphicall.org and download a blender build that is optimized for your system. There are a lot of custom builds that speed up render times by as much as fifty percent.
Thanks, the rendering now goes faster. But importing the minecraft rig with the helmet of an facial rig doesn't work.
First I don't know if I have to press link or append.
I tryed both but then I have to select something. For normal meshes I know how this works. But for a rigged mesh not.
If I select charrig or something than I get only the rig or only the mesh. And I need both and the facial thing.
I know how to work with blender but I don't can figure out how to do this.
And I don't know what you mean with OP.
I am not verry good at english because I'm Dutch. So there may be some language mistakes in my post.
No problem. You want to use the append command.
When you select the blend file it will basically open up like a zip file would, with all the contents of the blend in nice little folders. You seem to have the right idea already, but what you want is to grab the everything but the camera and light out of the objects folder. You can select multiple items, and append them in one shot. When you do this (grabbing both the rig and the mesh at the same time) then everything will work in the new blend as it did in the old one.
Use shift click to select multiple objects or use the "B" button to use a box select tool.
Please add squids as a rig.. You would literally be my hero. Add squids
Sure I can add the squids, I haven't been able to dig up the info on their exact dimensions as of yet but I'm guessing their texture is at 1:1 scale to the blocks.
I have another question.
When I play the animation that I made with you rig in blender at the left top corner is in red fps: and the a number that changes.
Until now I only saw that when I had a partical system or an simulation something in the file. Usualy that makes it a lot longer to play the animation and to render it.
Do you have any simulation or particle systems in you file that I can delete?
I have 1 last question (sorry for so much questions).
Could you please make more mobs like a wolf, enderman and maybe a enderdragon?
I realy like your rig. It's so great!
And thanks for al the previous help
There aren't any particles that I am aware of The FPS counter generally appears in any blend when running through animation. Its basically there to show you the frame rate you are seeing, not the frame rate of the actual render. It can slow down into red, which tells you it is lagging behind the real timing. This is mostly useful for audio syncing. You can probably improve speed by changing the window draw meathod under user preferences-->System.
Also things will speed up a bit if you press "Z" and go into wireframe mode while setting animations up.
I'm not sure if the FPS counter is just a new persistant feature in the newer builds or if it's just a setting I had ticked on my end... I honestly never noticed it not being there. It is possible that it used to only appear when you used particles, but for me at least, its there even in blank blends.
Oh and another thing you might want to try is increasing the sequencer memory cache (its defaulted at 128mb) to coincide with the amount of free ram you have.
I do plan on adding the rest of the mobs, no worries. The new version will have everything, and it will be built for blender 2.6+
I finally have some free time coming up, so I will be able to work on it soon.
I first knew (Sorry for my bad englais) how to do but I forgot how to and I can't find it. :S
Both options are under:
FILE---> USER PREFERENCES ---> SYSTEM
the draw meathod is a drop box selection, it should be defaulted to AUTO. Try the other options, play your animation and see if the FPS improves with one of them.
The sequencer is a box on the bottom of the window, it will say 128 by default. This is in MB so change it to your RAM in MB format.
Blender can export anything in the file to obj format. Keep in mind that bones/rigs are not compatible with this format. Make sure you've selected the meshes you want to export, then File-->export-->obj and choose export selection only
can you change the download links to mediafire or something else?
Its a browser issue, it affects some people and not others. Use right click -> save target as
I'm not going to change to a pop-up infested site like mediafire. Dropbox is a direct download, aside from the random left clicking issues it works like a charm.
Hey Skarb. I think your rig is exactly what I was looking for! Although, I do have one question, is it possible to change the skin of the Charig? Some of my minecraft friends want me to make animations of their character doing something. So i was just wondering if it is possible to change the skin. If it helps Im on a mac
Sigh, another noobish question (I'm terribly sorry lol), but when I open the file in blender, the textures look extremely blurry and low resolution. Why is this?
Okay, I'm relatively new to blender, and I am having trouble importing the rig into blender. Is this because my blender version is 2.6 and the rig is 2.58? This rig is just what I need to get started on animation and I would really appreciate some help! Thanks guys!
Not sure why it won't import, try just opening the original blend and then either resave it or delete everything but the rig and save it. Also for importing a rig you need to use the file->append option and select the blend file, then navigate through its tree and select both the rig and the mesh, importing one without the other, or importing them separately will cause complications... if you append them at the same time then they will already be linked together after you're done.
I am rather new to blender, but I do know the BEAR mechanics. However, when I try to bend his lower legs, or lower arms, it wacks out and curves instead of giving me a nice, clean bend. How do I fix this?
I tried to download it but it won't work. It shows up as a random sequence of numbers and sighs. please change the downloads to mediafire.
