Wow. First visit to the skins forum. What a lot of overly proud and hateful people.
Thanks to those that shared their knowledge, effort and files.
To those of you criticizing those asking questions or asking for help please realize that your responses do not make you appear impressive or intelligent. Those kind of responses come off as self-aggrandizing childish rants. If you have the ability to do something that someone else cannot and you belittle them and praise yourself you expose a lack of self-confidence. If you are able to help others and share your own knowledge then others will offer you praise and applaud your skill.
I guess the only thing I would request is some orientation labels for the more ambiguous sections, like the top and bottom of the head, the hands, etc. Something simple to tell which portion orients towards the face and all that.
Otherwise, fairly succinct.

Obscure your finest maidens, obscure your offspring, obscure your male consort, for they are defiling ALL in this placid vale.
For starters, this is my first post *evar*!
So hopefully this will work. And be useful/helpful. ^.^
For anyone who decides to do this with Photoshop (which is interesting to do at such a ridiculous tiny size), here's the .PSD file I set up, with each individual body-part in a separate, properly-labeled layer, all which are grouped in major body regions.
The file type was saved in CS4, in case there's any issue in compatibility with older versions that I probably won't be able to solve. xD
If you're adding a hat to it (utilizing the "hat template" that I have in there) don't forget to remove/hide the "hat template" layer before exporting the finished file or you'll have a bonus head "floating" around your normal one!
As far as importing this file into anything other than Photoshop, I am unsure of how to do so. So if anyone with more knowledge/experience with that would care to post how to or to just go ahead and do so, feel free. :wink.gif:
Oh, and in case anyone has already done this somewhere else that I don't know about/haven't read about (because I'm a slacker in that regard), then dammit! I spent a good.... not a whole lot of time doing this. xD But! Regardless, here it is.
Two hours later, I finish my first very own custom skin (from scratch)! Used this template, making sure it works properly (which it does beautifully):
Hey I am a huge Zelda fan and I found this awesome Link skin on Google, but it isn't up for download. I was wondering if someone could recreate this skin
Thank you so much
Ryan
If it doesn't show up pm me.

Hey guys, Im Ryan. I was introduced to Minecraft just about a month ago and I am currently only playing on the free version, Ill be buying the full version.
I'd tried to do this in my head, but the image helps greatly.
I nominate this thread (or at least the originating post) to be stickied at the top of this forum, so that everyone who comes into it can use it as a resource.

Mystcraft: the most fun I've had since I started playing Minecraft. Craft a Link to a new Age!
Ah, I know that the "top" is the biggest, because you have seen. But the color of the frame at the top, where it would be pants, in addition to the default color T-shirt.
I pulled, of course.
Is there any way someone could make an MC Skin Edit for terrain? I understand that you would have to turn it into a .zip file afterwards yourself, but it would be great to be able to edit terrain much the same way that I do with MC Skin Edit, and have all the places nicely labeled.
Making my first skin, I found it hard to associate which part of the picture is what, so I made this.
-snip-
Enjoy.
well. i saved it,loaded it onto paint. did what a creator has to do...and the site keeps saying:"Error!
The image had the wrong dimensions!" even though i kept it even. WTF IS GOING ON?
Umm... Are you using that picture as a base for your skin? Because that picture is too large.
The size of the skin has to be 64x32.

Now, I think I will go somewhere else.
