Remember that as of this point the new textures are a work in progress! They do not necessarily represent the final product. That being said, I was curious what the ratio of like-to-dislike is.

I'm pretty mixed about this; I don't like how blurred/pixel smooth some of the proposed textures are (birch bark), it really eliminates any alternate use as they now serve their primary purpose almost too well. Other than that, I really love the bricks and changes to the iron block. The diamonds don't look like they were made for Minecraft in it's current texture state, but if a lot of other textures changed they could fit in nicely (they go great with other vibrant blocks that have underwent a pallete change).
Overall, if I had to choose between the new and the old.. sadly, I think I'd pick the old. Some of the textures I like, however, the new sharpness added to some stuff really turns me in the wrong direction. I should maybe mention I really love the guy's work that hasn't been on Minecraft. He's very talented! But I say this with the current state of the textures. Likely (or at least hopefully) some stuff will be tweaked/changed.
I personally love them. Especially the Diamond, cauldron and birch.
I also like the like the look for diamond blocks and cauldrons, but I really dislike birch. It's just too smooth IMO. The only textures I have a real problem with (that I've seen) are birch and obsidian. Other stuff, like bricks, look really great IMO.

Diamond blocks IMO have always been hard to put into builds because of how they looked. I am looking forward to making floor patterns with the new diamond block now.

Looking back on my previous post, I wanted to clarify; Minecraft has had a very distinct pixel art look for years. These proposed textures however, are moving away from pixel art and becoming low res art. Same resolution, but way more unneeded detail in a small space.
Looking one year later, the newer new textures are a major win for the game. Grid patterns are harder to see, and also they have a goodly reduced color count, which make them more consistant and, for all over, easier to work on. I think that the new textures will be good for 'vanilla expanded' or improved resource packs.

More info.
If you want, explain which textures you like and which you don't like.

Apologies if there is another thread asking this same question.
To me the textures seem like they were taken out of a 32x32 texture pack. Maybe it's just me, but something seems off about them.

Textures look like they were taken from some cheap-made RPG game...
