Hello Everyone, today 1.11 was released, and to celebrate we are remaking one of minecraft's most popular texture packs. Dragon dance was one of Hypercubed's most loved texture packs, and the minecraft community was very sad when Dragon Dance was official dumped. However, The Hypercubed Group is remaking the resource pack with the updated textures and more mod support. The pack isnt availible for download yet, but we are going to add downloads as soon as we can.
Just one problem: Dragon Dance wasn't made by Hypercubed, it was created by Steelfeathers who included this legal notice with the pack:
Disclaimer: You may NOT use these textures for any reason other than personal enjoyment. Ever. Period.
So no, you won't be posting this on the forum or anywhere else that cares about artists' rights. We have Rules against redistributing assets made by another artist unless they can PROVE that permission from said artist has been granted. In other words, either get permission or keep it as a private pack. Don't post it here, it WILL be removed.
That was already pre-planned and is in the process of confirmation. If this doesn't happen, PMC allows all untouched projects to be public domain after a while, so we can wait then. I dont know if the same is for MCF, though.
Our policy here on MCF is that we follow actual copyright law as best we can. That means a pack doesn't become public domain until many, MANY years after an artist's death... unless it is specifically released into public domain by that artist of course. In this case, no such release has been made so you'll have to wait a great many years to be allowed on this forum. I personally doubt Minecraft will last that long, but anything is possible.
PMC's policy is actually about the same as ours. According to their Submission Guidelines to use or modify another's work you must provide proof that you have permission from the original author as part of your submission. This is basically the same as our own rules regarding use of someone else's work.
My suggestions to you is this: If your team is actually good enough to update this pack why not work on a completely new pack in the same style? Make a loving tribute / unofficial sequel to this pack. Take what you love about this pack and use it to inspire completely new artwork. That seems like a far better way to pay homage to Dragon Dance and to Steelfeathers herself than to just steal her work when she's asked you all not to.
A lot of the Resource Pack community still has fond memories of Steelfeathers and many of us old-timers are on staff on a variety of Minecraft sites. If you post an unauthorized continuation anywhere that's even a little bit reputable it's going to get taken down. Take that into consideration before you spend time on this project unless you're doing it purely for yourselves.
