I started drawing a few textures using the extended Paint.NET pallet, which has ninety-six colors. I then found the pallet was not enough colors for what I would need, but I liked how my textures were turning out. The design is a bright, colorful pack with little noise. This pack is still work in progress, but I though I'd share it here on the Minecraft Forums.

Yeah, the stone and cobble look too similar.
Also, 32 colours of the default Paint.net palette are partially trasparent, rendering them somewhat useless for your purposes.
Looks very good! The only thing that I can give criticism at is... is that stone or cobble? It looks liek cobble, but from that first picture it seems it's stone. I'm confused.
The cobblestone is a somewhat darker and smaller lumps stone. It might need a bit of work. Here is a picture of them side by side, if that helps clear up confusion.

Yeah, I was thinking stained glass with that, but eventually I just choose to use a more full pallet.
Edit: I lowered the contrast on the stone to make it look somewhat smoother.
Version pre5 is released. Since this pack is a WIP, I decided to add the pre to the version numbers, so that when I feel this pack is complete, I can start at one.
Contains Wool, Hardened Clay, Stained Clay, a new Snow, and some adjusted textures.
Also has 1.8 stones
Opinions on the stone bricks? I added a bit of checkerboard noise to them and stone slabs.
So I've been a bit busy for the past few weeks, but it's update time again.
We've got version pre6 complete with Emerald, Bricks, Ingots, New Metal blocks, End Stone, Door items, Ender Pearls, Eyes of Ender, and tweaks to Stone, Netherbrick, and Diamond
I'm not dead
I have not abandoned this project
Version pre7 is now out!
I added most redstone items, quartz stuff, some extra files (ignore them, they will not hurt you), changed torches and stone bricks, new log tops, new crafting table, and a new end portal frame.
This version adds textures for beds, bedrocks, daylight sensors (inverted), iron bars, monster spawners, redstone blocks, redstone lamps, and red sandstones. It also tweaks obsidian
This version adds custom textures mapping for crafting tables, bricks, nether bricks, polished stone variants, stone brick variants, comparators, repeaters, and normal and red sandstone slabs and stairs.
Finally, it adds custom models for the bed and the ladder.
I really like the look of this. It gives me some classic Minecraft nostalgia, oddly. It also reminds me of a bunch of like, old PC games or something. Double nostalgia! I think it gives me classic MC nostalgia because of the cobblestone texture being so dark.

Glad you like it! I guess it is a little similar to some classic games due to the more simple art style.
But KnightMiner, I would love to hear a bit about what the new textures are and what inspired them, not just a change log.
Okay random person. I would love to tell you about them. Lets get started.
Firstly, this update adds three blocks made of iron. For the most part, they are basically my iron block texture mapped onto a tweaked version of the original model, but in the case of the cauldron, I made a brand new model which is like a pot... with four small legs...
Next we have the world border. I basically google searched "force field" and found a cool looking hexagon shield (which I think was from Halo), so I decided to make it out of a bunch of hexagons.
I also wanted the bedrock to have a reason to be unbreakable (inspired in part by insomniac_lemon's vivid torrential changes), so I gave it a similar animated force field texture.
Then we have the redstone stuff. I decided to redesign repeaters and comparators with a bit of a computer chip design, similar to my old command block. I also gave my command blocks a bit of an update, and even gave it a cool little screen with a blinking line thingy (what are those things called anyways?)
Lastly, I fixed the spruce leaves particles (wrong texture path), and the pack logo (still used the old stone).
TL;DR: I added comparators, repeaters, anvils, cauldrons, hoppers, and the world border, plus changed repeaters, command blocks, comparators, and bedrock.

The thickness is a little more than default, I did it to match the swords hilt thickness mainly.
New mineral blocks, lava, and most any block dependent on a texture I already changed. (plus a diamond)

You should add 3d models ;3
