Check out Lithos by Eleazzaar, it's actively developed and of a similar style.
You are all free to use these textures in any way you want other than simply re-distributing them for profit without significant original work (you can use it as a base for your new pack or do a continuation).
! ! !
This is pretty much my version of the Faithful texture pack. I always thought that people where mildly crazy for using faithful, and I thought that I could do a better job without much effort, so a made a couple of textures... then I never stopped. I've gotten to the point now where I'd really appreciate some detailed and nitpicking critiques, especially considering that this is my first attempt at 32x textures.
I currently have most of the blocks and items done along with some random bits. I'm also using the fonts and art of some other artists (credited at the bottom of the post).
Thanks to both of them for making those awesome things and allowing people to use them!

And default faithfuls had been done long before Eleazzaar got around to it. It's not really a new idea.
It is interesting, however, to see people's takes on the default textures. This is one of the better faithfuls, if I might say.
Yea, I know that this is in no way an original idea. This is mostly just a exercise to improve my skills and relax. Even is this became as successful as faithful, my pride would not be very elevated. This takes little to no creative or artistic vision, just interpretation.
And I did know about Lithos (if you care to look, I was the first reply).

Well, i didn't know starting out that more-or-less faithful 32x packs would be such a crowded field!
But for what it's worth, i don't feel that Dack is "poaching" on my idea at all. Stock32 seems to be going for a much more strictly-faithful approach than i am -- pretty much what vattic did only with more consistency and artistic skill. If i were not making a competing pack myself, i'd probably use vattic's for mod support, and copy over all the files that Dack has completed.
You might want to think about using more 1 pix thick lines, for instance in the stone brick, looks kinda puffy with the thick lines.

The planks look rather nice.
Yeah, i think that gravel is better than the gravel currently in the download. That one had too little space between the chunks.
I agree on all of that, but I'm not sure I'd say our packs are 'competing'. For one thing, I don't care all that much how well this pack is received because, while I have invested countless hours into it, I'm not emotionally invested enough do care what happens because it took no creative vision, it doesn't feel very personal. But mainly we aren't competitors because our styles are completely different. My pack is more 'faithful' and has much sharper detailes, while yours is more creative and realistic. (quite frankly, I'd rather us mount a full scale offensive against vattic rather than compete against each other )
As for the 1px thick lines; that is something I've tried to avoid in most places. Just because the default are one pixel, doesn't mean that they should remain one pixel. I think that the two wide lines look pretty good some of the time (especially in the nether brick, but obviously not on wood), it also allows for more depth. As for stone brick, that was the third texture that I did, and I'm going to re-do it. I think I'll go somewhere in the middle, having deeper shadow on the bottom of the brick and only a 1px wide gap.
As for the planks, they where actually the very first texture I did, and because of the way they turned out, I continued
I'd use this over the Faithful pack any day, great work!
I actually think Faithful is kind of overrated. It doesn't make any improvements from the default textures, just sizes them up. This, on the other hand, actually has some more detail and shading on the textures that deserve it.

By "competing" i meant (as you can see from the context) "competing for my minecraft time." I.E. anytime i'd use a texture pack that's remotely faithful, i'lll use the Lithos WIP so i can see how it looks in game, and spot new issues, and get annoyed enough with the default texture to replace them.
I wasn't trying to say that other packs are in any way the "enemy".

Quite frankly, I think Faithful is the epitome of overrated texture packs. Most of the very popular are very good packs (like doku and sphax), but as you said, faithful increases lag without increasing detail or quality over the default, or bringing anything new to the table.
Been trying this out, and I really like it. I think the main issue I've had with the other faithful packs I've seen is that most of the textures in them look, for lack of a better word, muddy. There's just not enough definition to the textures. This one doesn't seem to have that issue, for the most part. The barks do, though. I'm not quite sure what the issue is, other than them not having enough contrast.
I really like the gravel and the dirt in particular. I think they especially capture the vanilla feel while adding a good amount of detail. Really helps to show the difference between x16 and x32.

You're right about the log textures being less defined than the rest, I did quite a lot of anti-aliasing on them. I did try to have them more defined to begin with, but id didn't look very good.
Which gravel do you like? The one in the download or the new one?

I like both gravels, but prefer the screenshot one.

I use paint.net along with a couple of plugins, nothing fancy.
Putting the CENDENT back in transcendent!
Thanks!
Not saying you stole anything, just saying a 'detailed faithful' has already been done, (sorry) ;c

The only other one I know of is Vattic's and that isn't very detailed.

Don't get me wrong, yours is really good too c;

I'm not sure how we could do that, with the rather different takes of "faithfulness" we are doing.

You mean those algorithms that upscale the image for you?
No I don't use anything like that, I just draw over the 16x textures.
