You know, I realized today how much I use this texture pack. After making a short video guide for a friend using the default texture pack - it felt so weird using the default. It just feels so....harsh in comparison.
I don't see why it'd be overkill - tab are meant to be a part of the panel, like the vanilla one below. In fact, that's the whole base metaphor behind tabs. What you've got there is just buttons arrayed where tabs would normally be. Make the tab an extension of the brown frame, with darkened ones behind for the other tabs.
Plus, there's already a scrollbar graphic in the pack - it's what you have when setting field of view or brightness. Just make an expanded version of that for the scrollbar.
Whilst I'm on the suggestion train, can I propose that Pine Wood should be darker? It's the standard dark wood of the game, but right now it's bright and orangey. If anything, jungle wood should be what pine wood is now, birch should be what jungle is now, and pine is meant to be darker and browner, maybe the same colour as the lower half of a chest.

I'll make a second one to fulfull your request that blends in like the vanilla one. As for the wood, I'll have to take a look again.
EDIT: There's two of them.
This is the default:
Here's the alternative:
I editing the wood in accordance to what the original texture pack has.
I really like this pack, first one I ever used... But it needs to be updated :I
I usually release when Minecraft does. If you're looking for the 1.2.5 version, it's on my website.
Trip wire!
And that one thing!
EDIT: Download now available on my site (click the image in my signature). NOTE: If you want the alternative inventory tabs (the wood), you'll need to delete allitems.png in the gui folder and rename allitems-alt.png to allitems.png.
The 1.3.1 update is now available for download. I didn't see anything that needed updating. You could actually keep using the 12w25a update if you want. However, if anyone does find an update feel free to speak up! (I still have yet to figure out where the language button is. I really would like to fix that.)
I noticed I keep accidently deleting these screenshots. So I decided to fix that.
Anyway, here's the two new blocks from the snapshot (right now).
[snip]
They look so awesome, especially the beacon block in the above sceenshot! I could just stare at those textures for the beacon block for days and not be bored.
Things are looking good. I'm not really sure about what to do for the redstone. I do have one thing that I think could change, the light/birch plank. It doesn't seem very light/whiteish. I'm not sure if it's the version, I guess. I'll try changing it.
Maybe on the top? I think that would look good. Too bad you can't replace the latch shape with it.
I was thinking about placing it on top as well.
Finally was able to edit the inventory layout. I had to redo the boxes by hand so it took me a while.
What did you have in mind? I thought about making it wood but I thought it would be a bit of an overkill.

Huzzah! 12w25a! Thanks for all your efforts, man.

I have been trying to edit the redstone light for about an hour but don't like what I'm getting.
