I'm trying to work on a texture pack, and I was able to remove the green tint on the grass block, but for some reason the green on the side of the block, which is the same as the top, is grey. Can anyone tell me why and/or how to fix it?
Uh...no? That's not the issue. Grass blocks are completely grey if minecraft doesn't give it the tint. It should be mint green when I removed the tint generated by minecraft, but it's grey instead.
I know. That's what I'm saying. The PNG file of grass is grey, at least the green part is. The tint is created by the game. With the tint removed, I don't see what the issue is, aka why the top isn't affected but the side is. It doesn't make sense, and idk how to fix it.

OK, time out. I'm very confused.
You say that the tint is removed? Yes? And so the top texture has color directly in the texture file then correct?
OK... so what do your side textures look like? Both "grass_block_side.png" AND "grass_block_side_overlay.png"? Show us what those look like since those are the files that would govern this issue, please.
Because right now I'm with KittenKatja on this - it seems to be doing exactly what you've tried to do and I'm entirely confused as to why you're complaining. Maybe if you showed us the relevant files it'll clear things up for us.
So, the grass top and side png that is used by the game is grey, and a tint is applied by the game, so technically, the color on grass you see is not the block's true color, it's grey. But removing the tint should have allowed me to make the block any color I want, but instead it's grey, and idk why. And About the side overlay, I didn't see that with the other overlays.

That's probably your problem right there. If you haven't changed it, then it'll still show up as default. And since it's gray in default, and not getting a biome tint due to you removing that, it'll show up as gray in the world. Understand?
No, I don't because there are only 2 overlays that exist in my files. Grass, and foliage. If there's a third, idk where it is.
Now you're contradicting yourself. Do you have the "grass_block_side_overlay.png" file in your pack or not?
Also, which version are you making this for? It has a different name in older versions of Minecraft so if you're making this for like 1.8.9 it'll be under a different but similar file name.
The files that I'm talking about are in "/assets/minecraft/textures/block/".
In all fairness, I should have realized you weren't using the correct terminology when you listed "foliage" as one of them since "foliage" doesn't normally have an overlay. Though I suppose it could have been something custom that you added so... yeah...

You were able to remove the green tint on the block, but then you complain about the tint being removed!?

But the side of the grass block has an overlay so the green gets the tint, but the brown of the dirt doesn't.

Ok here. I'll explain and post a pic.

I'm not contradicting myself at all. There were never more than 2, foliage and grass. This is the current version of the game.
These are my overlays
Those are colormaps. Not overlays.

That actually helped me find it. So what do I do? Delete the file or just save the image as a transparent file or...?
Either make it completely transparent or else make it what you actually want the grass to look like, colors and all.
Deleting it will just make it so that the game uses the pack underneath it instead, which will bring you right back to where you are now.
I'm glad I could help you.
Thanks!
