I'm trying to make my first texture pack and I've always enjoyed texture packs that have had different textures for the blocks. (similar to bdouble0's) I've been trying to figure out how to do this but have been unable to get the textures to appear in game. When I follow tutorials online I still am unable to get the textures to appear in the game. I'm thinking it's just my own lack of knowledge about this but maybe it is something more.
I've been trying to follow this: by Alan Becker. It was made a little bit ago so I'm unsure if the information is still valid. I did look through the comments and noticed that one thing said in the video needed to be changed and did so but followed the tutorial for the rest of the process. every time I try to load the texture pack into the game with the changes I just see the purple checkered pattern. as I mentioned I'm not sure what is wrong and I feel like I lack the knowledge to truly explain what is going wrong or what I am doing wrong as I just started trying to make this. I hope this might help to explain the issue I am having though.

The first go-to is to run your files through www.jsonlint.com to see if they're valid. That checker will at least clue you in on if you've made any technical mistakes in the formatting and point out about where they are. A valid file won't necessarily work as there might be an issue outside of the file, but it's the first thing you should check.
Otherwise, please post your model and blockstate files please. It's much easier to SEE what you've done. Make sure to use Code tags to make the formatting easy to read, and preferably hide the file is Spoiler tags just to keep the post well organized and the thread tidier. Alternately, you can put them up on Pastebin and provide links here.
A session log (.minecraft/logs/latest.log) would also help since minecraft will tell you what it thinks went wrong... or at least try to.
Finally, please let us know what version of Minecraft you're making this for. That's important.
I hope that helps you to help us give you the help you desire.

Aside Alvoria, you still did not state your problem.
I don't know, if it's the blockstates, the models or the textures.
I don't know, what that comment said, as a video usually has more than a few of them.
