I am making a minecraft texture pack for 1.8.9 but i am making the bow texture and it has a white background and i do not know how to fix this. When i edit the image for my pack, when i go to save the image it says "If you save this image transparency will be lost" and i cant save it without clicking on "ok"
I don't know much about this but could you make clear parts of the texture in photoshop or another program if the base/background of a new texture starts that way which you obviously then add your own colours/textures and elements to.
Not sure what photo editor you're using but you'll need to save it as a .gif or preferably a .png file in order to save with a transparent background. .jpg won't let you have transparency and .tiff or .psd files will be too large most likely.
Don't use the standard windows paint program, it can't save in png.
You need to use something like Paint.NET or GIMP, both are free, unlike photoshop.
In Paint.NET, mark everything with the top left tool in the tool window that you want to see in your texture and then in the top, there is a way to change how the tool can be used, hover over everything till you find XOR and then mark the whole rest of the picture, so that everything else that you don't want to use is marked, then you can either cut it away or use the top right tool and drag the marked areas out of the picture, which will then not put in your clipboard, like cut.

Otherwise here is a tutorial I found on the wiki: https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Tutorials/Custom_texture_packs but there may be others on Youtube probably from around the time of 1.8.9.
