Hi all, I am in need of help in regards to creating a custom Resource Pack. I'm not looking to edit existing block models, but to actually add new blocks with custom textures. I am making old classics like PacMan and Frogger, and need some additional blocks to put my Sprites on. I would like to keep the existing Minecraft blocks 'as-is', and create additional blocks to modify and use for my games. And even better, if possible, I'd like to have a separate tab within the Inventory that contains these additional blocks.
Any help would be appreciated!
P.S. - I know I can use item frames to hold custom 'Map' images, but those can only be placed vertically on a block, and I need to be able to see my textures from above.
Also, I am using the latest Snapshot (currently 15w38b) for these builds, mainly to make use of the new Command Block functions, so using any 'Mods' are out of the question.
Well, that's what I thought at first, however, I seen a game re-creation by Jesper The End called Bloxorz (see Spolier) and noticed he had custom blocks and buttons within his Resource Pack. I tried to 'reverse engineer' it but with no avail. I know it can be done without mods, I just don't know how...

I'm pretty sure they are using a resource pack. If you look, their hotbar is all transparent.
You can't add more blocks using a resource pack. You can only modify existing ones

Yes, but in that pack he IS re-purposing existing blocks. A Quick examination shows that he's using the various slabs and a the two granite blocks to achieve the effect.
This is different from what you proposed. There's no way to leave the vanilla blocks the way they are and just introduce new elements using a resource pack alone. That needs to be a mod. That's why Jesper DID alter existing blocks for his game.

Yes, he is of course using a Resource Pack, but within the pack there are custom block models that are not taking place of existing blocks...the are in addition to the existing.
Ah, I see...he just designed custom block models and textures with custom names, and pointed to them by modifying the blockstates.
Well, I guess I'll have to make use of the current number of available block textures and design my Sprites accordingly.
On a side note, does anyone here know if there is a way to load a resource pack on demand by using a command block or something, or do you always have to go to 'Options' and manually change it? If I could make it change automatically, it would just be a temporary loading screen instead of having the player manually change to the texture pack for each game they enter.

There's no way to do this in vanilla. The only 'automatic' way is to make a resource pack load with a map... but this is a once-per-map thing; not something that can be changed on the fly. Beyond that there are server plugins that can do this, but that's probably not helpful to you.

EDIT: I was incorrect about this statement.

That's what I was thinking...
Thanks!
