Basically, I'm trying to find a model maker that is user-friendly and can easily compile the model as a .json and export it directly.
I've seen BDCraft Cubik, but it costs money and I don't want to pay money to customize a game that I already paid for.
The next best was Mr.Crayfish's model maker, but you're restricted to 16x16 pixels and it is hard to get details, as well as having the bug of randomly crashing when attempting to save.
I've searched online many many times, but I haven't had any luck.
I'm hoping that someone is willing to share the site of the program they are using that isn't mentioned on the minecraft.gamepedia page.
Thanks in advance.
(Note - I'm expecting to get some people that misinterpret what I'm looking for and accuse me of trying to get hacked/pirated copies of programs or their source codes, just like when I asked if anyone could tell me how to make a resource pack a few years ago (that was a total disaster...the topic became one discussing about the moral issues of stealing resource packs rather than how to make one...). I am merely looking for other programs that may aid in making 3D models in Minecraft.)
I strongly recommend Opl's Model Creator. It's a little bit feature-lacking, but is pretty easy to use if you watch the tutorials people have made for it since there are a few unintuitive elements.
I also suggest looking into Mr Crayfish's model maker. It's a pain to use in some aspects, but it's also more funny featured than Opl's in some ways. Still, it might fit your style better.
And no, don't spend money on Cubik. The pro version may be the most feature-complete modeling program for Minecraft currently, but it's also a buggy mess that's ultimately not worth the price. Better to spend the equivalent in time actually learning how the system works and using the free tools available. There's plenty of free tutorials and programs made by the community for the community.

I will try OPL, but according to what I read, it doesn't support custom item models, which is what I intend to create.

Ah sorry. Missed that part.
Also, the format for block and item models is the same save for the various rotations for the items in their various views.
As I said, no one program is full-featured. Sorry.
The title says it all.
