I had to redownload minecraft recently and now I don't have a resource pack folder. I was running 1.7.10 and was able to open the resource folder to just drag and drop texture packs into the folder. Now when i click on "open resource pack folder" I hear a click but no folder pops up. Also, there is no texture pack folder in my ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft folder. Any help would be great
I am also having the exact same problem for pc. I go in game, click on open resource pack folder and an error pops up saying there is no resource pack folder. I go into .minecraft and its no where to be found in any folders. Other fishy thing is the texture packs are not in a folder at all like they usually are. I even deleted all the game files and started from scatch and nothin. I literally bought this new laptop yesterday and am running minecraft 1.8 version on windows 8 . Any help as soon as possible would be awsome thnx
I'm wondering if theres any way to download 1.7.10 somewhere and then update to 1.8 afterwards. When I did that before, I was still able to add texture packs to 1.8. It was only after removing all of the mine craft files and just downloading 1.8, like I never had 1.7.10, that the problem started.

You can select your version from the Minecraft Launcher. Just edit your profile, change the version from "Current Version" to 1.7.10, run the game, quit, and then change it back.
Or, you know, just manually add it to your minecraft directory the way you would create any other folder.
Hey Alvoria that worked I appreciate it. I created a new profile using 1.7.10 and loaded the texture packs there, then reopened my 1.8 profile and the texture packs were there. Thanks for the help!

I can think of no logical reason why that should have worked when just manually adding the folder didn't... but I'm glad you got it working none the less.
Go to your minecraft launcher and Click Edit profile, then go to versions and change it to 1.7.10 and download the resource pack and it will work and then go back to your minecraft launcher and go to edit profile then click under Versions, Use Latest Version and it should work

This was already posted above. Not sure why you felt the need to reiterate this.

I found out how to get the resource pack folder you just open minecraft in 1.7.10/1.7.9 and it will somehow give you a resource pack folder!!!???
I found the manual way to fix this issue on Mac. The path we've gotten used to is wrong.
Instead of the folder being located as "~/Library/Application Support/minecraft" it is actually installed in the Library folder contained in our Home folder as a hidden file. But there still isn't a "resourcepacks" folder there either, so you will have to create one.
Open your Home folder > Cmd+J or Open the menu "View" then click "Show View Options" > check the setting "Show Library Folder" > open Library folder > open Application Support folder > open minecraft folder > create new folder titled "resourcepacks" without quotes > place packs in folder as normal. (I recommend you then Hide the Library folder again. Just open Home folder again > View Options > uncheck "Show Library Folder" in View Options.)
It seems 1.8 installs per user libraries now instead of with the system Applications.

Try updating to 1.8.1 pre-3 instead.
