So I'm just making a texture pack for personal use by taking textures from other people's texture packs. I'm not going to be uploading my texture pack anywhere and have no intentions of stealing credit for anyone's work. I pretty much have everything I need except I really want Blue Fire that doesn't cover the whole screen. I found some really nice ones but unfortunately the only ones I can find are 64x64 when I want 32x32.
I tried making it myself but the fire is much more complicated than other textures so I'd rather just use one made by someone else that looks way better than what I can do. Thank you for any help you can give me!
I'd like to ask you to take down that video, we don't care to see promotion for pvp a.k.a THEFT packs.. nor are many of us willing to help someone else make the same.
Try making your OWN textures rather than swiping the hard work from others.

Nah that's fair enough man I took it down I understand what you're saying and I didn't intend to advertise that texture pack I was just using it as a reference. Though this is the second time you've commented on my thread about how PvP packs are theft packs it seems like you hate them with a passion.
But it's okay, remember I stated in my other thread, this is a personal texture pack I'm making for myself only. Yes I might be stealing the textures from several different texture packs but I'm not re-uploading it ANYWHERE and not claiming like I made it either so you don't need to worry about that. I know lots of people like famous YouTubers who take other people's texture packs like faithful and swap random bits from other texture packs to make their own personal unique texture pack. I just want a texture that is my own.
I do hate them with a passion. My own pack has shown up in one. When you have worked on something for a few years, and spent hours perhaps even days sorting out how a texture should look. Shoot it's taken me a few weeks to come up with a block design for the new water temple that I like, making several textures, going in game to check how thy hold up to the real build.. scrapping them, starting again..
Yes to see hard work mearly riped from you, smashed in with others works, having your name striped from it and someone else taking full credit for the work, AND earning money off it? Or making a big name for themselvs on youtube for it?
I loath them.
While it's not 'bad' that you're doing it for personal use, I would still recommend sitting down and trying to make your own. Theres a guide to textureing and many other tutorials out there. Who knows with some work you may make the next big hit..
If somebody has gotten famous or made money off of an image that you made and them claiming it for themselves, then why didn't you request YouTube or where ever they had the resource pack posted to take it down? If you can prove that it is beyond a doubt yours, then the video or pack could not only be taken down, but the uploader be suspended or deleted (and with even a bit more effort, you could get some of the money they got off of it).
There are laws that state that any work that you made, unless you agree otherwise, is automatically copyrighted to you.
I agree that he should try to make his own, but as long as he both gives you credit and doesn't upload it, you should be happy if your work gets used in a personalized pack. That says that the person likes that image of yours over any other that he has found. Though, that's just my personal view of it.

It has been tried to no effect. Youtube does not care, at all, unless you have lawyers on your side. Asking them to take something down isn't going to work. Youtube only cares if a video is infringing, not if something put up for download in a description is infringing. This is why Youtube is quickly becoming the new Pirate Bay. People can put whatever stolen content they want up for download and put their links in video descriptions to get traffic.
Basically unless that stolen material is getting them sued by a big company that they'd have a hard time out-lawyer-ing, or getting them scrutiny from a federal agency for really illegal stuff, Youtube simply will NOT do anything about it. That's Google's way of doing things, and since they own Youtube that's now Youtube's way of doing things.
Saying "It's the law" is meaningless. Laws are enforced at the behest of those with money and influence. The whole "Justice for all" thing is just a meaningless slogan. A lie that we tell school children to make them think that they'll get a fair shake. It's not true. Just read the news and you'll know it's not true. Giant corporation "misplaces" billions in investor's money? Oops. Oh well. Nobody even loses their job. Some dude steals a $50 DVD that a giant corporation owns the rights to? 30 years in jail and a $25,000 fine!
The same applies here. Youtube/Google are massive multi-billion dollar companies. A lot of us artists are either too young to have an income, or are (like most people) just struggling to get by. The legal system is absolutely NOT on our side.
And that's why we struggle to discourage this. That's why we rage so hard at people who steal artwork from us. Getting people's opinions on our side is the only real weapon we have. We know we have no chance in a real court, so we try for the court of public opinion. We discourage theft, and get thieves banned from the forums and websites wherever we can. We keep the high-traffic areas that we have some influence in as clear as possible. We make these things hard to find, and hard to get, because that's the only real recourse we have when dealing with these things. We don't have practical, real control of the works that the law has rightfully granted us undisputed ownership of as creators... but that doesn't mean we have to take it lying down.
Or... you know... some people like me just put our work under a permissive license and let people have fun. Individual taste of the artist and all that.
No... the uploaders use the loophole known as "Youtube doesn't care". There's nothing about what they do that qualifies as "Fair Use".
I have never had an issue where YouTube doesn't care. Somebody was once advertising a texture pack that my friend made as their own, had him report it, and some time later, the video and download was removed. Now I'll admit that this could just be that the uploader had a change of heart, but it most likely wasn't the case.

Mind giving us some information on exactly how he went about reporting it? Other people around here have tried to absolutely no effect.
Any information you can provide would be helpful. What form he filled out or page/button he used to file the report, what exactly he said in his statement, ANYTHING at all will be helpful. Some people here have been fighting a losing battle for a long time and this is the first I've heard of a success story.
I would like to first clarify that this was back when Minecraft was still in Beta, so I am not sure if YouTube has changed since then. However, from what I remember, he contacted the host that was holding the download file though email, used the report button on YouTube and contacted YouTube though every other way he could, and contacted the person who claimed the pack. I do remember that the download link went down before the video did, which could have been a contributing factor as to why the video was put down if it was put down by the user.
Beyond that, I don't know. It could just be that he got lucky and the person that responded to the infringement claim did care. Either way, this conversation has been enlightening, and I will have to make sure to take extra precautions when I start uploading my own resource pack.

Yes, Youtube has changed, unfortunately.
Still, it's interesting. I know people have had more luck working the file host angle than trying to get the Youtube videos taken down. When the subject is brought up in the future, I'll recommend that to people. Thank you.

Well in that case from now on I'm just gonna report any "PvP" packs I find on YouTube that have stolen textures because I myself am strongly against stealing people's work and claiming it as their own and if reporting them really is that difficult then I guess an extra report from one more person may help a little. And yeah I completely agree with you about making my own texture Taiine, but the fire is just a little bit too complicated for me. I've already done a few textures myself like I made the swords have blades like a katana, made the bow blue and some other changes to the GUI. Like making my inventory see-through which honestly makes some online game modes way easier, and having blue hearts and a blue experience bar is nice coz I love blue. So yeah I know that it's a much better feeling when the texture is made for me by me and I would totally make the fire myself but like I said it's probably just the one thing that's too complicated for me.
If we could please stay on topic for a moment though...
span>Quote from tbh1138» Find a 64x fire texture you like, open it in Photoshop, and scale it down.using Nearest Neighbor interpolation.
Are you sure it's really that simple? Because I've noticed that the 32x texture and the 64x textures are both 1024 pixels long, so won't halving it down make it 32x512 and I really don't understand that much, but I noticed the "meta" file for the fire has something to do with the animation and wont I have to edit that file or the fire animation will glitch or something?

Just be careful about making sure that the person making the pack is actually in the wrong. For instance, Vattic has a condition on Faithful's Terms of Use that Youtubers are allowed to use that pack's textures for remixes as long as they only post them on Youtube. We keep having to report them, and get them removed for infringement here on the forum because those same terms of use specifically say NOT to make forum threads for remixes.
On the other hand, if they've mixed Faithful with with another pack that doesn't allow remixes under any circumstances then it's still illegal.

It has to be proportional to maintain the animation. The width has to be 32x, but the height should just be half of whatever it was at 64x.
Alternately, you could just find one in 32x that isn't blue and adjust the hue. That's pretty simple since you're just moving a slider.
And yea, fire is a difficult thing to animate. I can't blame you for not wanting to try making your own.
Yes youtube back in the day, back BEFORE Google bought them out was a lot better. The report system WORKED. They worked harder to keep illegal stuff on the site. That is why you didn't see this sort of thing back then. It did exist, but youtube cared more and removed such content.
Now it's google whom owns and runs youtube, and thus reporting stuff not only became harder, but again you're reporting the VIDEO they restricted it souly to the VIDEO, theres no way to report the contents on the discription. Unless the VIDEO contains something illegal, say a upload of a movie, say transformers.. then yeah youtube will remove it asap. But making a VIDEO of someone playing a game with custom content, even if that content is mixed with other stuff... that alone isn't illegal. It's like players that play mooded skyrim, or WOW, or yes minecraft, they have a jumble of mixed content from others. again that's fine.
But it's the download to the file, if someone made a mod pack, made videos of them playing it, it be fine, but once they make a download to said modpack, unless the mod authors are ALL fine with such, then that DOWNLOAD becomes illegal, but the video is still fine...
Yet we sense google came along, can only report the video, and only the owner of the work can make the report... but if in our own terms we state that yeah, you can make VIDEOS using our work... well then theres nothing illegal going on in their eyes and the reports go ignored.
It is that reason that these PVP packs have started running amuck on youtube.
Frig sakes, go search for movies on youtube, you'll see a LOT of videos that say "go to link to download" and are they removed? NO.
Google is really the new pirate bay, not just for people stealing textures, but other stuff as well.

I know you didn't mean it, but I find that typo kinda funny, lol. Anyways, have you tried sending them a standard feedback with the description highlighted along with the video?

If anyone wants to port/remake this, feel free to do that! Or don't. It's up to you, really.
