Make these folders assests/minecraft/sounds/music/game In the game folder is where there are three more folders: nether, end and creative.
Inside the nether folder, there are 4 songs, that need to be called: nether1 nether2 nether3 and nether4.
For the end music there are 3 songs they need to be called: boss credits and end.
All custom music must be saved as a OGG or it will not work.
I recommend using "audacity" if you are going to be making resource packs that change music/sounds.
I hope that answers your question, please let me know if you have any more questions.

Actually, I am planning on [sometime] posting an entire default minecraft resource pack, the way everything should be set up for a minecraft 1.8. resource pack [it would also be how a minecraft 1.7 resource pack would be set up]
For an expample to follow
I don't know about you, but I find this Very very helpful.
And no you can't add more songs than default minecraft has.

Yeah, sorry about that.
I was not actually allowed to post that, as it was the property of Mojang... my mistake.
