Here is how to make your very own 'default' resource pack.
Go into your resourcepack directory and make a new directory titled 'default'.
Unzip the contents of the most recent minecraft jar file into your new 'default' directory.
Delete everything from that direcory except for the assets directory and the pack.mcmeta and pack.png files.
You now have a default resource pack that you can edit to your hearts content.
The textures all live under assets/minecraft/textures
