Minecraft Default texture pack download?
I love the default texture pack except a few things i used to edit the minecraft.jar but then the glass file got really complicated so could you link me to a default texture pack for the lastest update?
not what i was looking for i want a download of the default texture pack to put in so i can edit it and make it my own
The problem with that is that those textures are copyright Mojang AB. It is illegal for anyone other than Mojang to distribute them. If any of us were to give them to you, we would be breaking the law. What you can do (assuming you have purchased the game) is force-update your minecraft.jar, and then extract the textures from that (.jar is an archive file format -- a .jar file is like a folder, you open it with WinRar or 7Zip, and inside of it are several other files and folders, which can be extracted. Among those files are the textures you are looking for.) If you have any mods that you don't want to have to reinstall, you can backup your current minecraft.jar before force-updating. Then pull the texture files out of the clean one, then delete it and restore your backup.

Copy everything in your .minecraft folder to a new location as a back-up (you should be keeping one anyway) then force update, once you have copied the default textures from minecraft.jar to somewhere else delete everything in your .minecraft folder and move a copy of your old files back into it.
If you have a premium account and a decent internet connection this will take you maybe all of eight minutes to do and you will not have changed your game at all.

That's the most ridiculous crap I've ever heard. So are all texture packs illegal? Where do you think they start from?
Texture packs were made by graphic artists, whether they work for Mojang or whether they are freelancers doing it for recognition or for fun. The Mojang Terms of Service and EULA are probably the laxest I have ever seen, basically the one and only firm rule is to not distribute anything they made to anyone. (Especially not to whiny jerks who simply want to pirate their hard work instead of paying for it.)
Mojang freely allows anyone to modify their work, they say so more than once in the terms of service and eula, but first you have to get it legally to be able to modify it. You are asking people to violate the terms of service and eula to give you something that you have not paid for.
In fact Mojang is so nice about all of this that you can download the .jar file directly from them without even having an account. If you had bothered to spend a few minutes looking for it online instead of whining here you would have it already.

I also like most of the default texture pack, minus the glass and the water. I came across this thread when I was, like you, looking for the Minecraft default texture pack but learned, also from this thread, that it would be illegal for others to distribute. SO I went into the textures folder in my minecraft.jar and just pasted the different glass.png (from the painterly pack, fyi) into the folder and it worked for me. So, what I don't understand about your post is how your glass file got really complicated when there's only one .png for the glass, since all the sides are the same? Maybe you could elaborate on what you did exactly when trying to edit the minecraft.jar?
Alright, here's what everyone is forgetting, he's not distributing it if he is only using it for himself. It's only illegal if he decides to distribute it which i doubt anyone will mark it since iv'e seen like a thousand texture packs that only have a few things edited. Plus I found this post because I wanted to make a texture packs for my most recent adventure map, but i didn't know the format so I want to just download a default one and edit all the things i need to. Whats wrong with that?
I too Kinda Need To Download It If got locks on my PC and they prevent me from getting a dupe of the default
Its For A 1.6.2 C4 texture and tons of other stuff so plz get the texture link 4 meh

You think magic isn't real? Consider this: for every person, there is a sentence -- a series of words -- which has the power to destroy them.

/\ What he said :P...
How is it illegal???!!!!!!!
It redistributes the textures that Mojang's artists made.

Texture packs aren't made by Mojang, they're custom.
