You probably zipped the whole folder, instead of the contents of the folder. When you open the zip file, the first thing you see should be the /assets/ folder and the pack.mcmeta.
Come on people! Can you answer my question please?
People really shouldn't have to tell you how to use your own operating system. You made the choice to get a Mac, you're the one who needs to learn to use it.
You click the download button and then run it on the Windows emulator of your choice since there is no native version for Mac.
Alternately, you could just learn to use GIMP. It might be a bit more difficult, but it's a more rewarding tool to use in the long run.

Well, I do know how to use it. I also know that there is no native version for Paint.NET. I knew how to extract the exe. archive. But all I want to know is what do I do with the folder. I need a resource pack for my floating ice rink (WIP) and I want to design it myself (but if you guys want to help you can).
I found a program for both Windows and Mac (and is also compatible with Linux) called Pinta. It's like Paint.NET, except it can also work with Mac and Linux.
And it is tools like that that are making it stupidly easy for all these so called 'PVP' packs to show up, packs that are nothing more then a mix of others works.

hi it says to put the pack.png in the same location as the pack.mcmeta. is that inside the same forlder? like I have mine set up as asset folder, pack.mcmeta, pack.png but it is not showing my image on the resource select screen
Hey so I'm making an adventure map and since i gotta make a recourse pack for it I decided to get some sounds for the mobs. i noticed though, the default sounds where a .ogg file and my files where a .zip file. I ignored it and when iI tested it nothing worked so I went back to the sounds and renamed them (example: yes1.ogg) but beside it it still said .ZIP file. Anyone know how I can convert them?
Acctually, you can zip it, I use a mac and how you zip it is simple! Highlight the assets folder, pack.mcmeta, and pack.png (optional), right click (Control + Right Click) and click Compress. Or In Finder Click File and Compress with the highlighted items selected. If you have a Windows, I don't know YET, BUT! I do know this, you DON'T have to compress it into a .zip. I use my 64x64 Resource Pack Zipped and Unzipped and it works perfectly! Hope It helped!
I was thinking, why hasn't anyone gotten DEEP into Resource Packs? If you want to check out a simple and advanced way of making resource packs, check out this thread right here!

I have gotten so deep into a resource pack that I almost made it out of there alive.
Jokes aside, yes many people have gotten deep into learning Resource Packs, I know everything about how they work & how the files are suppose to be save & the codex used. The only part I don't know about Resource Packs are the Features for Sound & Music. But I am having someone help me with that by them making a Sound Guide.

I for one don't like the unneccessary changes to the .minecraft folder they did. For me, it just adds confusion, anger, and a broken monitor.
Also, I don't have a pack.mcmeta. Help. Please.

"Hark! Dost thou hear with thine ears what I hear with mine? Interloper! No quarter shall be shown hither, fiend! Anon! Show thyself, churl! Have at thee! *fires, misses, gets shot at* Fie upon thee! What-ho, the laser on mine rocket launcher be not a mere target, but a guidance system! Where art thou? Come hither, that I may smite thee! *shoots the Apache down* Thou shalt not be missed."
Actually mine didn't worked zipped
For me Adobe Fireworks had worked perfect.
