I need help with this guys. Im trying to add my resource pack to my server but i have no clue how to. If anyone can help me and point me in the right direction that would be great. Thanks guys!
In your server.properties, there should be a line where you can set the texture pack. Copy the direct download link for the pack (the link directly to the file, not the page that you download it from; it should end in .zip) and paste it after "texture pack=" in your server.properties.

Can you show me an example of a .properties file with the resource pack in it please.
And also i make my own resource packs and i want to know how to get a URL for my resource packs.
thx.

You don't need me to show you the whole file. I explained how to do it well enough already. Find the "texture pack=" line in your server.properties and put the url of your pack after the equals sign.
To get a url for your pack, upload it to a site like Mediafire, Dropbox, Curse, Mega, whatever.

So far, I have had no luck. I've been combing through the source page, and am still having trouble linking the resource pack. When my friend helped me test for the download, he would get the prompt, click yes, and it wouldn't download or show in his resource pack list under options...
so far in the server properties the line looks like this:
resource-pack="http\://bit.ly/13JDGNJ"
I couldn't find a source link that had a .zip at the end, and this is the link that prompts the web download. Any tips for this situation?
actually, I could also use some help in this. I'm trying to find a way to use this resource pack: http://www.resource-packs.com/dragon-dance-resource-pack/ So far, I have had no luck. I only trust texture pack downloads on this forum and Planet Minecraft. Those are the only two sites where the link you click was put up by the person who actually made the pack. Those other sites are just mirrors, and aren't guaranteed to be up to date, and could even be a virus. Try looking for direct links on Dragon Dance's official thread.
Till now, I cant find the direct link to Vattic's Faithful 32x32 resource pack. I know all those properties file except for the direct link. When I want to download his pack, all I need is to click the link and that's all and is I copy the link address it is http://goo.gl/kzNkX. What should I do

Don't use the bit.ly link for starters, also, you have a \ before your :// which is going to cause an error. you need the direct download link. when you type in the link above, you will begin to download a file, however because it is not directly the download, it is incorrect. that url is a shortened url that leads here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26448149/Dragon Dance v0.8.zip
put that in place of your bit.ly link and it should work. in the future, if you are using chrome it is easy, just go to your downloads and it gives you the link that the download was from.
goo.gl
adf.ly and all the other ones are link shortening services .. they shorten links
here i de-shortened goo.gl one .. you can use it if you want http://www.faithful32x32.com/dl/faithful32pack.zip
and you can find unshortening services all around the web
Resource Packs don't work as .rar files period. So... no.
Why would you need for a pack to be a .rar archive anyway? Even if somehow literally all you have access to is WinRAR you can still use it to save your archive as a .zip file instead. Same with 7-zip or any other archive manager that can use the .rar format.
The permissions shown here I assume tell me that anyone can download it. However when I paste the url in the server.properties under resource-pack= and start the game it seems as though it doesn't do anything. Unless I'm not giving enough time for it to download then I don't see anything happening. If you need more pics as to what I see feel free to ask. At this point I don't know whats wrong. I saw on another website that the file may have to be 50mb or less for it to work. This one is greater than 80mb and is a 256 resolution. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Or you can go on my server and try it yourself to see what I'm experiencing. Its saladsnake.iamallama.com
EDIT:
Nothing I see on drop box, no matter which link I copy, seems to give me a straight .zip.
The last link I could find was Download
is it possible to make the link local, say I put the resource pack in the same directory as the server files and link to it?

I don't think you can add more than one.
This should work with any resolution texture pack.

This is so straight forward and its on line 15 for the 1.8 server
