So, I am trying to make my first Resource Pack, and I downloaded a blank template for one found from this video: . So I change everything I want changed then save it and put it in the resourcepacks folder in .minecraft. However, whenever I go into MC it doesn't show up. Now I've downloaded a few other resource packs and they look the same to mine, I cannot find out the problem. So I was wondering if any of you could help me out and tell me what a did wrong.
Link to my RP: http://www.mediafire...fzw77i9td0oox9i. Now I can understand why you may not want to download so if needed I can post pictures of the files instead.
I watched the same video and set up a resource pack in the same fashion.

Only problem I can see is that he's doing it on the pre-release of 1.6.1
Chances are they're set up differently in this actual release.
Others have said to set it up in the same fashion but I'm still getting the same issue.
I can see the "custom resource pack" as an option when I load up the game, but the textures I've changed don't actually change in-game. It may be that the game is still reading the 1.6.1 file in the Versions folder

When you open the zip file or folder that your resources are in, you should immediately see a folder called "assets" and a text file called "pack.mcmeta." If you don't see this, you've set your pack up wrong and it won't be detected.

When I open the zip you posted, I see a folder called "Bioshock Infinite RP," and then /assets and pack.mcmeta are inside that folder. If that's the way it is in your resourcepacks folder, then it won't work. /assets and pack.mcmeta have to be in the root folder.
If you just dragged your whole resource pack into a zip, and it actually was formatted right, then I don't know what could be causing the problem.

Bump. I'd really like to know too. I meticulously followed the requirements to format a resource pack. An assets folder, a pack.mcmeta file, a pack.png file, the whole shi-bang. I put them in a zip, and also I downloaded the oCd pack and it worked. What's wrong with me!? All I wanted to do was change the steve skin. :'(

If you have a pack.mcmeta, and your pack isn't showing up in the list, then there's a problem with the code in your pack.mcmeta. Check that it contains this code, with no syntax errors.
I am having a similar problem, though instead of making one myself, im trying to use downloaded ones. Each of the downloads are 1.6.2 resource packs from this site. I have dragged and dropped them into the resource pack folder but the only one that shows up in game is the default even though all the zips are in the folder when i look through finder/library/application support/minecraft/resource packs. I have run the mcpatcher to try and fix this to no avail, even completely reinstalling minecraft with a new launcher. Nothing has worked and im at the end of my rope...and yes, i've made sure all the right files are in there according to the previous posts. I use the Mac OS and i made sure to have the latest versions of everything, what am i doing wrong?

I had just tried your advice. Ctrl C'd and V'd that puppy right in there. My original pack.mcmeta was the default Minecraft one, because the oCd file didn't work. Still, no progress. However, I merely modified the original steve.png file to my designated skin now, although, not too simple, I had accomplished it.
Despite of my success, I am still curious as to the resolution of these invisible resource packs, in case I ever run into it in the future.

Make sure that the pack.mcmeta and your /asstes folder are in the root of the pack. Meaning, the file structure should be /resourcepacks/yourpack/assets, not /resourcepacks/yourpack/someotherfolder/assets.
You'd be surprised how many people mess that one up.
If that doesn't work, then you might have to send me a link to your pack in a private message so I can take a look.

Yeah, I double-checked that format. Actually, I replicated the format from the oCd resource pack. My folder lists out as follows:
My pack.mcmeta and pack.png are also in the root folder:
/resourcepacks/Default + Custom Skin.zip
I also checked to see if the name of my resource pack (Default + Custom Skin) affected it because of unavailable characters or something. ("+" sign or spaces instead of underscores) Didn't seem to take affect to it. I'm also making a new resource pack with full texture editions and I'm having the same problem with that one also. I'm eagerly looking forward to a simple solution to the problem, if you or anyone else can discover it, I would greatly appreciate it.

Derp... Found it. All that you practically have to do is simply put the files in a folder rather than a Winrar file. I happened to stumble upon it while observing the file properties of the resource packs. I had noticed that my resource packs were a .rar file, while the oCd resource pack was a .zip file, although, strikingly similar file types, there's still a minor difference. Considering this, there's apparently more than one solution, as the oCd resource pack is in a .zip file rather than a folder.
I feel rather reconciled from this entire experience and now it has granted me full freedom again to create and edit my own textures and resources. I hope this issue may never occur to anyone else, as it poses as quite an inconvenience.

Iv'e created a resource pack but it won't come up in my list of resource packs in game.
But when I press the "Open resource pack Folder" button it's there but there's no option to use it in game.
I feel like I've made a mistake in the path or file names that I'm not seeing, the path is...
.minecraft, resourcepacks, my resource pack, then there's to files, a folder called "assets" and a word document called pack.mcmeta with the text.
{
"pack": { "pack_format": 1, "description": "Default Resource Pack"
}
}
Could anyone tell me if I've made a mistake somewere, I would really appreciate it!
Make sure that your OS hasn't added an unwanted file extension to your mcmeta file. It should be pack.mcmeta, not pack.mcmeta.txt or pack.mcmeta.doc or anything like that.
OK to make a long story short I have not been playing long and I finally started downloading adventure maps. Only problem is they have texture packs and when I put them into the resource pack folder they do not show up. I have watched several YouTube videos and nothing works. Sure the maps show up but they never look right. Just to let people know the maps I have downloaded are Misty Skull and Kingdom of the Sky. I guess what I need is a Dummies guide on how to install resource packs, what resource packs I need to install for these maps to replace the texture packs, and a swift kick in the head.
If you don't spot the difference, the first one has quotation marks (") around it, while the other does not. Another thing is to make sure that after the number on "pack_format", be sure that there is a comma.

Yeah, guys. According to my discovery, rendering the zip files into a mere folder seems to be a certain solution. Some resource packs, including mine have the actual file of the resource pack inside a .zip file from the download source, from which you simply extract the folder into the resourcepacks folder. Although it may not be the only solution, for my downloaded oCd resource pack seems to apparently work in a .zip file. I'm yet to get to the bottom of this, as it would seem much more easier if resource packs could be installed in a more empirical method.

I have both of these files.

Not quite true. Texture packs were ZIP files, but resource packs are just a file folder.

Not:

Hope this helped some of you having the problem!
Edit: For me it works with quotation marks.
basically any of them that I'd open the zip file and come to a single folder, those don't work.
If I open the zip file and found the [assets] folder, pack, etc, then it works.
