When I made stuff with texture packs in 1.5 all I had to do was install Optifine, add a file in mobs called, ex: zombie2, and I would have a random mob texture, now I still have Optifine, but I don't know how to add random mob textures. I added the same .png files with the appropriate name into the entities folder, but that didn't seem to do anything. If anyone knows what I'm doing wrong or how to fix this issue, please let me know.
First, you have to use MCpatcher. Then, after 'minecraft' were the sections should be, add a folder called mcpatcher. then, inside that, add a folder called ctm. Then, in your example add a folder called zombie. Put your pictures in there, and call them 1, 2 and 3 and so on. That half of it, I'll reply again, when I can find how to use the mcmeta or whatever
You actually need to call it 0, 1, 2, 3 and so on. Next, for example, if you had 2 zombie pictures, call one 0 and the other 1. what you would do, also using the same example. is make a notepad file with the zombie pictures, and call it zombie.properties (remove .txt). Then, still using the same example the tiles would be 0-1 and method would be random. So here's what it should look like:
Name: zombie.properties
Description:
tiles=0-1
method=random.
Remember, you must use MCpatcher. So, there's how I think you do it, so go try it.

that is correct. Optifine no longer supports multiple mob textures. It will still support random block textures and the like just not mob. Mcpatcher does however using the format above.
Make sure that 1.6.2 is the selected version, and click "Patch."
Alright, so I did what you said, "made sure to select game version: 1.6.2 and clicked patch" then a loading bar came up and loaded... That's it, is that not supposed to happen? If it is, do I need to find a certain directory with the files I need to do this?

Edit: Alright I've installed MCPatcher but looking at the GUI I have no idea what to do. Any advice?
