I've recently started adding some items by doing overrides on other items, like so:
{
"parent": "minecraft:item/generated",
"textures": {
"layer0": "minecraft:item/iron_nugget"
},
"overrides": [
{ "predicate": {"custom_model_data":1}, "model": "lospec/pixellite_nugget" }
]
}
Then I tried to do it with a custom model for a helmet (from blockbench), and it displays the custom model in the inventory / hand, but when put onto the players head, it just looks like a normal iron helmet, model and texture.
So my question is, is it possible at all to change the block model of armors with texture packs?
If not, is it possible to do an override for the texture that still uses the vanilla helmet model?
If you're trying to get the 3D armor to display differently, like when its on your body or on an armor stand, you can edit those by going into textures/models/armor. Each armor has two layers. Layer 2 is just the pants, and layer one has the helmet, chestplate and boots. This makes it so the leggings can fit under the boots and chestplate. You could probably find a template somewhere, but if now, I can get you one. If you have any questions, I'll do my best to fill ya in
Hey! I know it's been over a year since this thread was published, but i'm looking into this, and this was the only thread i found. Can you send a template resource pack for this?

The response was never correct to begin with. Changing the look of the armor as worn by the player or armor stand isn't something that Minecraft does. To enable such functionality, you'll need to use Optifine's Custom Item Textures feature. Naturally this also means having Optifine installed.
Since this thread is old and the original poster is no longer requesting help, I'm going to lock this thread. If you need further assistance, please create your own thread.
