This is my code :
inside my Texturepack/assets/minecraft/models/block I edited the gravel.json file to say
Just as the forum i looked at told me I did but it wont work can someone help me or show me what i've done wrong? thank you in advance
Brackets are important in JSON, and you forgot the ones of the square variety for your random set... commas are also important and you're missing those, too:
I'd recommend looking up on JSON rules (what brackets are for what, when to use commas etc... especially if you find a minecraft-centric JSON explanation) as well as using a text editor that highlights syntax errors, for example notepad++ (on Windows) and Gedit (on Linux and OS X).

Thank you I just wasn't paying attention thank you so much do you possibly know how to change the shield texture?
Depends on what you mean.
If you mean textures only , there is a folder inside of the entity just for shields and 2 textures outside of that. All of these files (for the shield) must be the same resolution or else it will look funny (this is the same issue you will run into banners).
If you want to do a model.... you can't without giving up full banner capability. The banner capability is added using an entity model that must be given up if you want to use a custom model... tintindex will allow for ONE color to be used (it will be the 'main' color of the banner, whatever its default name is, probably the 'base' banner), but that's it.

{
"variants": {
"normal": { "model": "gravel" "weight": 2 },
{ "model": "gravel/gravel1" "weight": 1 },
{ "model": "gravel/gravel2" "weight": 1 }
}
}
I also created a folder for gravel named "gravel"
In that folder i have the 2 new .json files for the new textures; gravel1.json which says
{
"parent": "block/cube_all",
"textures": {
"all": "blocks/gravel1"
}
}
and gravel2.json which says
{
"parent": "block/cube_all",
"textures": {
"all": "blocks/gravel2"
}
}
