Hello there, I have been looking around, and most of the photo realistic packs are either on poor quality or not updated.
My question to the community is:
Is another photo realistic texture pack needed?
I was planing on making a photo realistic pack for minecraft going from x32 to x1024 in size, but don't know if its needed due to the other popular ones out there. Any suggestions / feedback?
The slightly longer version: Definitely not with that level of quality. There are loads of obvious repeats in that texture that make it really obnoxious to look at. There's a strong diagonal line that runs from bottom left to top right making the stone look striped. Additionally the big clusters of stone stand out and form obvious points that draw the eye, further enforcing that this is a tiled texture and not natural rock.
As a suggestion, if you're thinking of doing a realistic pack I suggest looking into how to do lots of randomization with block models. One of the things that most of the existing ones lack is vanilla randomness; which is something that's vital to making natural textures seem, well, natural. Particularly at a higher resolution.
In addition to what Alvoria says, if you want better realistic packs find an existing pack that you can contribute to and improve. With thousands of textures now, it's kind of insane to start a new one from scratch if it's not neccesary.
Even if you can't contribute directly to a pack, packs now easily stack-- you could also for instance make an addon for famous, but abandoned and incomlete pack X, that adds the newer blocks.

In case Anyone is wondering I thought something like this
Tiled Version:
The sort version: No it isn't.
