I guess paintings are not added yet perhaps. my chest animations work properly, here is the .properties for the painting animation. It works if I run the pack in 1.6.4, but not in 1.7.2. It does have some partial-transparency for no reason, maybe I should try to remove it seeing how it will normally cause the pixels to go in and out of existence depending on the angle from which you view the painting/item/block.

thanks to all of you helping us with our random requests. you all rock!
I have an idea that would greatly enhance my pack but after reading through this thread i'm not sure where to go to learn how to achieve it.
i basically want block overlays that stand out from the blocks' texture like armor overlays do. like they're on another level sort of raised or embossed from the block. I was under the impression that you could easily do this with ctm but now i'm not sure. I want to achieve an effect where moss stones' moss seems to be growing on top of the block. If I learn how to do this I've got tons of ideas for other blocks so any help would be appreciated.

Sadly, you wouldn't be able to do this with CTM, or any of MCPatcher's other features. Raised relief would require a Shader mod, and some bump mapping or parallax mapping, and that's a little outside the scope of this topic.
Of course, you could always use good old-fashioned artist trickery to fool the eye into thinking that the moss is above the stone, no fancy features required!

shucks lol well, thanks anyway. Finding out it cant be done is better than continuing to pour over how it might.
Deonyi's guide to CTM is the only actual tutorial that I know of that's up to date. The rest of MCPatcher's features you can read about either on the actual MCPatcher wiki, or on the forum post under "Information for Texture Pack Authors."

i've got a new one for you. I've been getting into the repeat feature and love the effect. I got it working fairly easily except for one problem.
Check this out:
as you can see, on the horizontal the texture is fine. But something is going wrong with the vertical and it's causing the same tiles to be used over and over. This is my properties file:
I can't really see the issue you're talking about all that well, but I think you could've numbered your tiles wrong. If the slices of your image begin with 0 and end at 63, you must change your tiles to "0-63".
it is actually very hard to see if you didn't design the texture. sorry. here. check this out:
i've drawn lines over where the texture is broken up. I'm working with a 256 pixel squared and spread across an 8x8 area of blocks. on all vertical surfaces, the texture repeats as desired, as you can see by the large red box i've drawn around it. however, on the vertical, the texture doesn't repeat correctly. it's taking vertical slices from the texture and repeating them over and over.
my images are named 1-64 so the properties file is correctly calling the files, which are also named 1-64.
help would be appreciated. the objective with my texture pack is to avoid obvious repeats of textures. When i'm flying above flat surfaces, walking on grass and such, it works splendidly. It's only when i see cliff faces and vertical walls that i have this problem.

i'm actually in the 1.5's so that wouldn't be it either. and you know what else is odd? I have the exact same method for all of my leaves. same texture size, exact same file names, properties files ( copied and pasted just to make sure ) and it's working perfectly for the leaves. but dirt and stone both have this same problem.
(Required) List of exactly width * height tiles. You do not have to arrange them in a rectangle, but doing so makes things easier to see how the pattern will look in-game. The total area cannot exceed 256 tiles, but a 20x12 pattern is permissible.
tiles=<list of width * height tiles>
what in the heck does that mean? my properties file just says "tiles=1-64".

Ok. I just solved my problem after realizing that all 3 problematic blocks have metadata values that are used by the mod to change said blocks into others. Instead of writing tons of .properties files to fix the problem, which was probably possible, I decided for a hail mary pass and searched the web in hopes that there was a newer version of mcpatcher for the launcher i was using. by grace and luck there was, and the new version solved the problem. So, to the maker of mcpatcher, I LOVE YOU.
now moving onto the problem you're having, can you show a screenshot?

I'm not going to say the guide will not be updated, but many parts of it are out of date and have been since I started learning this stuff. My best advice would be to find a pack with a customized sky and learn from example. All of the advice here pales in comparison to actually seeing the properties files and understanding them.
What are you trying to do? I've gotten my skies to work really well and might be able to help.
sorry. where does the color.properties file go?
i've tried assets/minecraft/mcpatcher/color.properties and other places
doesn't work
the content of my color.properties file is
particle.water=ff0000
but water particles are still blue
That's the correct place to put it, and that's the correct stuff to put in the file.
Make sure you're showing file extensions and that you don't have a hidden ".txt" on the end of your .properties file. That will cause MCPatcher not to read the file. You can look up how to do this for your operating system if you haven't already changed the default behavior.
If that's not your issue, please consider sending me a copy of your pack via PM. It's usually just easier for me to examine it to see what's wrong rather than playing "guess my mistake" over the forums.
Barring that, what versions of MCPatcher and Minecraft are you using?
I'm quite sure this guide is outdated, as I took a LONG break from minecraft. If anyone wants to compile the changes for me and shoot me a message, I'd be happy to update it.
No, it works. The folder location changed to /assets/minecraft/mcpatcher/anim, but otherwise everything is the same.
hmm, ok ,I'm trying to get some animated paintings to work, they work in 1.6.4 but not in 1.7.2
Weird. I'm able to get animated hunger icons to work. What all are you doing?
Does yours look something like that? There's nothing that changed between 1.6 and 1.7 that would break this, that I know of. Very strange.
EDIT: Still does not work even after removing the partially transparent pixels.
