Another mega-build!
Me and the same buddy from above have constructed another big thing; this time for his upcoming server!
It's called the GCB or Great Central Boiler. While it's name is straightforward the actual purpose of the building isn't as the body that controls it, and indeed the city it powers, is secretive in nature. It's rumoured the building actually houses secret laboratories and dungeons... but that's all rumour...
I'm showing you this because you can now see my new quartz textures!
The pillar has been turned into a handy-dandy iron pipe and the normal block is girder.
Unfortunately you can't see chiseled quartz or redstone blocks here but they'll make an appearance eventually!
Anyway here are the rest of the photos!
Animated Daylight sensor! Yeah!
The boiler room vent.
Entrance corridor; you can get a good look at the quartz block girders due to my gratuitous use of it here...
The lower sections below the heaters.
Pipes carrying steam, precious steam. These are the pillar quartz blocks.
Confound it all!
I've made a promise to not start any new texturepacks until at least Steamy is done, and I've been making good progress, but I have too many ideas! Argh!
I've just thought up two new texturepacks:
1. A futuristic Tiberian Sun-esc cyberpack
2. A Jurrasic Park knock, i.e Monster Park where the hostile mobs are the escaped attractions...
Guess I'll just have to suppress these thoughts...
I voted World War 2, largely due to me not liking steampunk much at all, but you can give me as much cyberpunk as you like >_>
So I thought about voting between Colonial and WW2. I went with WW2 because I have not really seen a texture pack try that style before, so it intrigued me.
Thanks for that
Interesting that you said you haven't seen a WW2 pack before... have you seen a colonial one? Is there a colonial one!?
I'm intrigued now, I better go look that up tomorrow... I can't believe I haven't checked already
Thanks for the feedback, and when I get steamy done you might just get that cyberpunk pack...
Oh no... My relatively productive period has ended!
I'm bogged down with real-life work again (including filming a post-apocalyptic short film!) and haven't been able to do much for a while. I did some work on Stalag Bergwerk in that I did the standard GUI and a few item textures. I've also done some tweaking on Colonial Rich and a lot on Steamy. I'm a bit annoyed at the new horse-armour textures because I can't see much I can do with them! Anyway I'll keep you informed If I get any time to do any serious work...
In the meantime enjoy this scene from the Russian animated treasure island.
Hooray!
A new 1080dp HD steamy trailer!
This one is to show off all the nice new textures.
Enjoy!
Already commented on this on your Youtube channel, but thought this needed way more attention as it shows some absolutely amazing ideas executed tip toppingly well at 16x. Awesome stuff...as they say in the vernacular.

Thanks! I'm doing some work on armours today. I've planned gold, diamond and leather. One of the big problems with armour though is the 8x8 area for texturing >.< ah well.
Thanks for sticking around!
I've had a look at colonial and have started re-texturing carrot plants to tobacco plants. Tobacco was big business back in the colonial era and obviously no-one really knew about the detrimental health effects...
My decision to do this was based on two factors:
There's not much of a reason for New-World farms to be growing mass carrots. Tobacco was a far more profitable farmable plant.
I love the look of huge tobacco plantations I think this is due in part to Anno 1602 having tobacco as one of the main crops as well...
I thought I should explain myself so no-one thinks I'm trying to support smoking or the cigarette industry! In the much the same way that a Steampunk'er probably won't support deforestation or mass pollution even though It's linked to their hobby so too does my pack not support slavery, mistreatment of indigenous people, or addictive substances; despite them all being parts of the colonial era.
Take it all with a pinch of salt.
(Don't worry, I'm not going to put and slavery or native mistreatment into Colonial Rich!)
Oh no!
I've been very proud of my changing the coal ore texture in Steamy to be a solid block like a real-life coal seam but Jeb's new block will set me back a bit . The new Block of coal replaces the aesthetic uses of solid coal coal block, such as piles of coal at a train station.
*sigh*
Back to the parchment!
Thanks! I've done some mobs for Steamy and am getting close to posting some new images!
Given how good a job you've done on the guis and terrain I'm really looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the mobs.
You've done amazingly well at 16x to make the most of so few pixels, Squid, and so well at avoiding everything looking overly cutesy or bright. Not that there's anything wrong with those styles...just not my cup of tea for steampunk, which I can never see as anything other than old and slightly grimey with the odd sparkle...just like me!

Aw shucks you flatter me!
And thanks for noticing the effort to stop the cutesy! I find 16x packs often end up "rpg" themed, which is fine and I do enjoy that style, but I did want to keep this one dark and grungy. It is a bit lighter than yours, on purpose, as I have marketed as an 'exploration' pack rather than a creative pack!
The mobs, sadly are not being very kind to me. Minecraft mob models are frustratingly incorrect, (especially the chicken; I mean, what is that bird?) and are clashing with my style a bit. Especially the eyes! Gah! I might have to stick with default MC cartoony eyes beacause there's not much leeway with 4x4 pixels . I think I owe you a screenshot however, so here the chook with a new bow (matchlock musket) texture.
As a chook owner myself I tried to make these textures more like real life... but real like chickens have small beaks, combs, and eyes on the side of their heads!
Here's the video I watched for 'research' with the matchlock musket. I'm sort of going for a early Steampunk vibe, late renaissance.

I share your frustration with misplaced proportions of (in particular) domesticated mobs. Wait 'till you try the horses...my horse armor looks slightly late Renaissance too, not intentionally, I just didn't want to confuse armored natural horses with any steampunk automatons I hope to make for the zombie and skele equine mobs, so they came out slightly baroque.
Haha! We keep chickens too! So I completely agree with you about the hens...way out for any attempt at realism and at 16x you've really got your work cut out. It infuriates me that whichever way you look at the majority of hens made so far, the wattle that hangs down always looks like a cartoon tongue blowing a raspberry!! It almost always ends up looking like a cartoon duck too ...perhaps that was Notch's intention.
So Mojang is once again rewriting their texturepack system to a 'resource' system. I'm going to assume, like with textures, that people will not be happy with stolen sounds. Hooray for being prepared! I have a small sound library of steampunk-esk sounds which I may be able to use to create a Steamy soundpack!
With regards to Colonial and Stalag, I don't know what I'll be able to do, so I might just keep them as texturepacks for now.
Sorry about the lack of progress here though, It's exam time and I'm under pressure!
I'll be in and out...
I'm really getting into the whole 'vidya' thing. Here's something to make up for the lack of progress for a while (My last exam is 3 days from now). This video will show you (some of) my sounds I've been working on for Steamy.
From video description: I started compiling a sound library about a half a year ago for use in short films and other projects but haven't really got much use out of it until now. I've got everything from chicken noises to industrial steam dumping, from me jumping up and down on logs to electrical generators humming. It's been great fun mixing and preparing these sounds so far and I can't wait to finally release them!
