Introduction:Hello! My name is Squid Empire, or more often, just Squid. I've been texturing for a while now with some success and so I thought I'd finally compress all my packs (finished and not) into one thread. This is a recycled thread, so the early comments might not make sense to newcomers. That's okay, you shouldn't be reading them anyway! I have some bad news though; I love starting projects but often never get around to finishing them...As such I have started 6 texturepacks over the years. Of these 4 I am still working on.These are (in order of when I started them):
Global Bridgehead (Complete! But not a full pack!) [And now discontinued ]
Colonial Rich (Not very much complete!)
Steamy (COMPLETED!)
Stalag Bergwerg (More than Colonial but less than Steamy!)
And of these four I've finished two. If you want me to work on one of the other more, just vote so above; I do consider the votes.(All these packs (will probably!) require MC Patcher )
I've been following all these packs from the start, and I can tell you that all three are worth continuing. You seem to see this as more of an art than a video game art. Truly great.
Pack Info + Screenshots:This pack has it's own page especially for it. If you're looking for a modern 16x pack for your server, survival or creative world; you might just have found it!Here's the video for it:

32x (HD)
One of my oldest packs (and my favorite)
Designed for survival and creative
Will be resource pack with language and sounds
What do you do in minecraft, you arrive in a strange new world and tame it to create a new empire, by yourself or with other players. In survival mode, Minecraft is a colonial game. Colonial Rich was my first foray into the vast world of the 32x texturepacks. I wanted to create a dark damp colonial world, where players can feel as though they're pushing the frontier. It was influenced by the early Anno games, Age of Empires 3, movie such The Last of the Mohicans and even the play The Crucible. This is the sort of mood I'm creating with this one:
You pause for a minute beneath the cool shade of tall, broadleaved trees. A small creek runs nearby, gurgling softy over small round pebbles. The trees sigh slowly as a light breeze rustles the leaves on the ground, moving the damp grass only slightly as the moisture on it twinkles in the sun. The call of men floats across the forest on the soft wind and reminds you of your position. You hop over the small, dark brown, creek bank to the other side, making a soft thud in the grass with your muddy boots. A trail, made of crunchy leaves on rich dark dirt, winds its way through the trees and marks the way back to the settlement. Repositioning your bundle of fire wood you start of on the trail grandly leaving the tiny creek behind. Late afternoon dabbles though patches in the roof of leaves and the path crunches as you walk at a steady pace. Soon, the smell of wood-fire drifts to your nose as you leave the forest into a manmade clearing. The sounds of sawing, ocean waves, men talking, children playing and the faint clank of smithing begin to enter your ears as you walk through the tall fields of crops outside the walls of the settlement. The wall around the settlement, made of wood and stone, glow red in the setting sun. The ocean twinkles to your right as you enter the settlement and witness the buildings of wood and canvas that surround the port. Smoke drifts from most of the chimneys and redcoat soldiers talk, their muskets rested upon walls and posts. You walk along the bare earth path until you reach your own hut, where you deposit the firewood and gaze off to the ocean, where far away lies the motherland.
This is my most personal and favorite one, but also the one I work the least on, for fear of messing it up!

Exploration and Discovery video']
Hell, as it turned out, was quite profitable.During that great age of exploration, it seemed nothing a human could imagine did not exist beyond the knowledge of the time. A great many wonders had been discovered and documented by the alchemists; both of that title by degree or by hobby. The wonders of the long-life gas lamp, the power of the compact furnace and other marvels of the age are attributed to these gentler fellows of discovery. Of course; as more and more was found so the momentum of the movement increased, until, by the end of the second decade of revolution rumours started circling of an alchemist like no other. He was brilliant they said; discovered no less than eight unique potions, but quite unpredictable and unsocial, and so resided in a gloomy basement of a wealthy baron’s estate. The public met this figure with the enlightened sense of sympathy and even admiration, the man achieving the incredible despite his predicament. As rumours go it was quite believable- the baron in question was no socialite himself and so was rarely seen. All these circulating stories came to an end about 4 months after they began.By then the mad alchemist was big news and was well known thought the land. During a cold, still night; when everyone was indoors huddled around fireplaces and steam-heaters, a terrifying scream was heard. It was traced as coming from below the baron’s estate, much to the public’s delight and fascination. A few guards on patrol entered the basement early the next day bringing the baron with them. The baron himself claimed to have heard nothing but commented he did have a guest residing downstairs. Upon the descent the guards saw masses of laboratory equipment, but the bulk of the large stone room was taken up by a menacing dark stone doorway. It was riddled with wires and pipes as if to contain the ancient and cold stone within in the warm embrace of technology. This unholy marriage bore a child too; for there, within the doorframe a ghastly red portal swayed and reverberated as unnatural as a ghost. The screamer was never found intact, and the portal was left uncheck until the next week, when a team of brave conquistadors stepped up to venture into the unknown. A large crowd of dignified individuals gathered in the damp chamber for the seeing off ceremony. As the final words were exchanged the adventures stepped boldly into the seething red door. They returned with stories of hell; a place no one could possibly survive for a time at all. They claimed to have survived for months on end but were gone for a mere week in our time frame. The tales they brought back terrified and shocked the people of the towns they were told in. Nevertheless one of the adventures shook some of the red dust on his boots off into his fire, and the riches of hell were discovered. The crushed red crystal burned with a rigor as of yet unknown and continued to do so for abstract lengths of time. This new crystal dubbed “Netherrack “started a new flurry of activity into the exploration of hell and it’s treasures. Expeditions were known to set out with hundreds of men shipping tonnes of materials into huge portals for months on end. The most successful company in this endeavour was “NETHER-REACHER” which itself lent its name to the new realm. They constructed massive fortresses of iron to hold workers and mining equipment. However, they were plagued with attacks from the horrific inhabitants of the world they plundered and eventually had to abandon their rigs.Nowadays; the nether is only rarely explored by small groups looking to make large profits. While Netherrack itself is in low demand, due to its never needing replacing, fragile glowstone, and netherwart is hard to come by and is sorely sought after by alchemists and builders alike. It still takes a brave soul to explore the forgotten land of the nether however, where it is said the twisted soul of the original alchemist still seeks to have his name forgotten; the name of Victor Whither.

Recently I got out my old Great Escape game and played through it. It's an interesting game based on an excellent movie based on an incredible story. I couldn't resist having a crack at the GUI, once more in 32x resolution, from the game and one thing led to another... Now I have the starting point for a new texturepack. I have to say though, I'm finding this one the hardest of the lot, tiling issues are rife and require constant attention. It's been a ball to do though so far, and I have some great ideas for it. Before I got too carried away though I did some research for other WWII themed texturepacks. I found a few sad 16x times attempts and realised that this is an area untrodden by non-n00b texturepackers. Well, If anyone wants a WWII 32x pack Stalag Bergwerk might turn out to be what you're looking for!.Oh and the name is a reference to Stalag Luft III, the prison from the great escape. While Luft means air, as it was a prison for airmen, Bergwerk, means mine so its a prison for miners.Want to help?:Give some feedback! Tell me what you like and what you don't like!Post some screenshots of you using my pack! If I can see what people are doing I can cater to them better.Don't steal! That one's a no-brainer!Vote for which one you like best!Use the signature? If you really like you can use this as your signature to link back to this thread:
Okay I know I can't go creating any new texturepacks and I promised I wouldn't until I got these ones done... but... I have a new idea in the unlikely event I can finish these. It's called "Vector Entropy" and is that sci-fi cyberpunk pack I've been wanting to do for a while. To keep it simple I'd only sci-fi-afy the man-made blocks. The idea is that earth has been abandoned and now in the distant future you've been stranded on it again. So there's mysterious new creatures (creepers, skeletons) but the rest is as we remember it, mushrooms, trees and lakes etc. The man made blocks would become things like computers valves and lasers as examples. I might never start this (I really shouldn't!) but It's somthing I'm thinking about...
This is chain armour with pumpkin helmet. The point of chain being medieval armour is that it can only be bought from villagers, who are a bit slow to pick up the changes in technology.
I should also note that the images for Stalag Bergwerk are from a custom survival world I'm building to go with the pack. You'll start out in a prison room, and have to break out, once out you can play in regular survival. I'll also have some books scattered around the prison that have directions and notes leading to small caches of materials or other features in the world around the camp.
New Beds, lamps and artwork! Some of the art is sketches of soldiers as seen here. I can't promise my sketching skills are any better on the other ones...
New lightmap makes good use of heavy shadows for sneaking. Also in this image is my new redstone torch, note block (alarm) and redstone lamp (Searchlight).
Just popping in to compliment your imagination, any of these three ideas would make for excellent completed packs! I voted for Steamy because I feel the same way about a more exploration-based steampunk, but I love the idea and inspirations for Colonial Rich and Stalag Bergwerk looks very well done. Props!
Well then, Steamy is winning so I'm working on Steamy.
Here's what I did today:
Circle Stone, perfect for shafts and levers. Jungle coca beans (chocolate on a tree ) and bread!
Oh... well general feedback is a bit hard to operate on, but it's a medieval style bun. I guess I'll provide an alternate, perhaps as a more traditional bread?
I was wondering as well, how worth it is it to make a sound pack for these texturepacks?
As far as I know all sorts of modifications are needed to make vanilla Minecraft accept any new sound files. I guess that the average player (myself included) does not want to install mods and mess with files for the sake of some pretty sound effects....
The bergwerk one looks awesome! show me some more of that!
Hmm, well I'm a tab busy for about 2 weeks but I'll get onto working on that.
I did do some textures for steamy, taking a very direct link to Rise of Legends by turning The End, and it's portal into a Cuotl space-ship thing.
Well I re-watched The Great Escape; however the ending has put me off working on Stalag Bergwerk for a bit, so I guess it's full steam ahead (lol) on Steamy!

Rightio then,
Here we go!
Yes, that piston and wheel are animated

Some redstone parts.
Thanks, I had put some shadow on, but I agree it might not be enough. I assume you voted for Stalag Bergwerk?

Luger! With ammo!
Thanks guys, and I guess I better work on Steamy then!
Any ideas for the hostile mobs would be appreciated! (preferably not robots)

But, I'd like to hear more response on why steamy!
Probably just some kid. Who cares?

Stalag and Steamy are especially nice, though.
Hey thanks, it seems those two are the favourites!
