ok so your code post about the block based items that i asked earlier were real helpful (aka the minecart and such), but if you can, can you make image templates of them and add them to the list? That would be helpful.

Can anyone sssspare ssssome Gunpowder? it wassss taken from me thissss morning... CURSSSSE YOU SSSSTEVE!!! Sssseeya folkssss
thanx this will help me but can you post pictures so you can see how it is normally? that will help a bit
That would require a lot of work, but is a great idea. Having the skin guides along with front and back pics of the actual mobs with the guides spread over them...along with front and back pics of the standard mobs would make for a pretty comprehensive guide.
robothacker, excellent work indeed. Your thread has always been my first port of call when tackling a new or old mob. Thank you for all your time and effort.
The new snapshot has new mobs. I'm pretty sure they all use the same model because of how they work, but I'd much like to see your take on their layout.

For earlier ones I uploaded my research to my Picasa web album (there are links up there.) For the more recent ones I mainly just go into creative mode in Minecraft and test. I added a layer in the PDN files just for my test marks so I could add dots or a binary ruler to check lengths, orientation or placement of parts.
My process is:
Minecraft(MC): Start world (I've seen a world with most of the mobs in a zoo environment, but with the eggs in creative that is not as necessary.)
MC: Find mob (use eggs or construct.)
MC: Save and quit to menu.
MC: Change to default texture pack.
Repeat as needed:
Windows: Make changes to texture pack (I have a batch file (MS Windows) that updates the files I change in the texture's zip file.)
MC: Change to texture pack to test.
MC: Reenter world
MC: Check mob (use F2 to take screen shots as needed.)
Thank the heavens for the ocelot template, been giving me the most annoying headache ever.
The ears and tails were confusing me, didn't think they'd give the ears separate textures and honestly hadn't noticed they had 2 parts for the tail to consider that.
The template for the iron golem in the 12w08a update was 96 by 96, in the 1.2 preview it was changed to 128 by 128. The pixels are in the same place, there is just more white space on the new version. I will update the files soon.
EDIT: Iron Golem files updated to Minecraft 1.2's size.

And the texture isn't any bigger? Just the image size increased?

EDIT: Nevermind.
Correct, the parts are the same number of pixels, the image itself is larger, so more blank space, but exactly the same number of pixels used to make each part. Others may have had the same question.
If it's not asking too much, would you mind deciphering the littlemaid texture? Not the actual maid part, but the little features and whatnot.
I had not heard of that mod before now. Since I just found a Tachikoma mod on the same page too (WOOT!) I guess I can check out the littlemaid textures.
Update:
It looks like they included a template in with the mod, but the notes are in Japanese (which I do not read.) Also, that template has an error, the side tails are actually 1 by 8 by 2 according to the source code that is included (which I can read) and not 1 by 9 by 2 that their template seems to indicate.
I have made a PDN (for Paint.NET) following the same format I use for the rest of the templates (Red=Top, Light Green=Bottom, Dark Green=Left, Purple=Front, Blue=Right, Orange=Back.) If you need one of the other formats for the template just ask.
I'm not set up for testing the mod right now (not sure if I can scrape together the 1.1 mods needed to get it working) but the template is based off of the source code they included in the mod.
when i tried making a custom skin for creepers the creepers only look white when i actually play. any reason for this?
The pictures are 640 and 1280, are you making like a 32x texture pack? If so, you need to resize the finished picture to 256 X 128. Thats what i did and its fine

Take a mansion that looks amazing. Now WorldEdit it into diamond blocks. It looks horrible now, yet some people still say it's amazing. I don't get it.

Do you expect me to sneak and watch a cow's udder!
OF COURSE NO
The only difference is the Cave Spider model is smaller than regular Spiders.
The skin is applied the same way.
Coming soon: Nintendo World Resource Pack
thanks.
