And if you're feeling extra daring, you could even try some hue shifting!
It looks like you hue shifted the whole thing, instead of just the darker areas
That, and the middle in the left block looks weird, like you didn't change it at all....

Make sure not just to read them, but to test the techniques during the reading.
i found the retro pixel tut VERY useful and now have it bookmarked. the rest gave me good ideas and stuff to watch out for. besides the retro, i got the most info from the first and last suggestions. as much as i hate not being able to work on it during the week, it just gives me the motivation to work on the weekends. with that in mind, there is alot of replies i have to go over to figure what needs to be done this weekend.
JESH, i finally managed to iron out the problems with the file and got my eyes to catch my first glimpse of my texture pack, and these are the results. keep in mind that unless stated, these all occurred 100% naturally in the world:
here is a good daylight picture of a large amount of stone. thanks again for all the people who told me not to use blank backgrounds, this wouldnt have looked good.
here is a naturally spawned coal ore vain that i uncovered and made a hollow room for
naturally spawned iron ore
all current textures naturally spawned in a cave embedded in a big piece of stone
a giant wall of stone, i was really insecure about how this would look because of all its past rap, but i think it looks really good.
naturally spawned gold (not fun to find might i add )
natural coal in a dark ravine.
well thanks to everybody who has stuck with me so far, i would really enjoy it if someone would mind posting a link to where i can get a 1.4.2 default texture pack, these were taken in offline mode because i was recently hacked and wasn't able to update. so if you want to see these for yourself in-game 1.4.2, i would enjoy a link or a file. you can also find me on Skype at connor.bruce98 and when i get a chance, ill get back with you on that.
note- these pictures were taken by me of my terrain.png, but i replaced another packs terrain.png with mine so i could view it, so some textures wont be default, and that is not my cursor design
People on my Skype just got early access to the pre-release for "the advanced age" for 1.4.2!!! prepare for a few new textures some major redesigns with ideas posted by-goodlyay;ilikegaming782;zardium;and insomniac_lemon. i am just days away from posting an update, thanks for sticking with me, time for progression.find me on skype at connor.bruce98 for early access to the latest textures

Well the stone looks great, but I still don't like the gold...

yah me too, i was thinking that a lot. i definitely see now why everybody has been nagging me to decrease the brightness of the coal, the black angles are too much, im gunna need something else for there. i do really enjoy the iron though, i think i did pretty good there, add a little shading and some color tweaks and im good there. any ideas on what to do about coal/gold though, im stumped.
new textures still looking good, this next update is going to include more than just my work this time. im gunna post some pictures of an irl buddy of mines texture pack and ask for YOUR opinion, so i can figure out what to do with next weeks textures. the idea is much the same as mine at this point, but none of our textures are similar, so i want to know what you think of them so i can get an idea of what you guys like. dont forget to find me on skype for early access to these new textures.
now entering a VERY early alpha stage of development. the newest addition to the advanced age, a GIANT update in comparison to waht im used to posting, i present to you, 1.4.2-1:
some things that happened during development:
flying along trying to look for a swamp to display the grass texture, not fun.....
glass texture fail, there is supposed to be glass under me :/
When you make the thing not smooth with an effect. It looks like you used one. :/
im still so lost, whats the problem, i hand pixeled a background, and i made very sure that the ourlines were nor black, in fact, if i remember correctly, they are 20 points off from 100% black in the paint.net colour mixer.
It looks like you hue shifted the whole thing, instead of just the darker areas

Try making the outlines on each of the ores a darker color than the ore, but not black. Kk?
