So, I've been working on my texture pack, and I'm sort of stuck with stone bricks. I have so far come up with two different textures for them, both of which I like:
The only difference between the two is where the highlights are placed in the shading, to make the bricks appear flat or slightly rounded, so I need the community's opinion: which one is better?
Well, just upload a zip with alternative textures along with the pack once you publish it. So people can take these alternatives and rename them accordingly.
Btw. I wish you good luck with your pack. It's a 16x, isn't it? I appreciate a well made low-res pack!
Well, it seems most people like the second one. While I think it looks a bit fuzzier and not as clean, I'm not particularly fond of the flat one so I'll probably go with it for now.
However, the first style in my opinion looks good on other blocks like stone slabs and smooth sandstone, so I'll probably use it for those.

you could always use it as an alternate texture. But remember, if it is TRULY the one you like the most, use it anyways.
I personally prefer the second one, simply because it has more depth. I have found that any thick objects, be them round or edged, look more real and have more depth if there is a layer of dark shading all the way around, since it does all retreat to the back, but then a light edge to an inner edge, where the bevel would stop, or in the case of a round object, where the light would be focused.

The first one just seems... Off. The second one looks smoother.
