even better than before. I guess less people will use it now because Optifine got a bit better, but i think it's still nice to have the option to have the ingame options and optimizations of Optifine combined with MCPatcher's (in my opinion) better features.
This is how i configured MCPatcher (may or may not work for you):
Optifine is added as mob at the top, Extended HD and HD Font deactivated.
The order of the remaining entries is important, move them around or MC will crash (at least for me).
Now to Optifine's ingame settings:
Chunk Loading has to be default or some of MCPatcher's features won't work. I think everything else is safe to change.
Clear Water, Custom Fonts, Better Snow can be on or off.
Better Grass can be switched on either here or in MCPatcher, works both.
Everything else has to be set like shown or some unpleasant things will happen (Custom Colours applied twice etc). Mipmap and filtering may work, but AA will break some things.
With these settings it's possible to use nearly all features from MCPatcher instead of Optifine's.
Better Glass works, we get the better CTM, Custom Colours, biome/height specific mobs and block textures work etcetera...
Have you had any success using this method with 1.6.2?
I've tried but now I'm getting those purple/black blocks all over the place.
The method still works for 1.5.1, even better than before. I guess less people will use it now because Optifine got a bit better, but i think it's still nice to have the option to have the ingame options and optimizations of Optifine combined with MCPatcher's (in my opinion) better features.

I have had similar "success" as ozBillo.
This is a picture of a superflat field. I'm holding glass, and the block on the right is an anvil.
I'm hoping someone might be able to figure out a way to get MCPatcher and Optifine working with each other. Until then, I guess I'll have to settle for sub-par CTM and "Better" Skies from Optifine.
I've been to the Optifine thread, they just insist that I don't need MCpatcher, (which just isn't true, better skies from my resource pack only works with MCpatcher.) I haven't checked the MCpatcher thread though, so thanks

Because Optifine impliments the feature differently then MCPatcher, so yes, they are correct in you not needing MCPatcher, but your texture pack must be set up for how Optifine does things if you want its features to work.
Optifine and MCPatcher are completely different entities. You can't expect them to work the same way.

I show my ignorance here... I am researching to fix that...
What resource pack is this?
That would be Chroma Hills.
Cast aside your festive doylaks: dragon stuff is about to happen.
Multiplayer is lonely once you understand how it actually works.
