curse pays nothing actually. It's useful in the sense that you have one download link that is automatically updated, so when you share your link to multiple sites, you don't have to go and change those links for every site.
As you normally would with a mediafire link and such.
It also have a nice interface with ratings, info, and such. Check it out sometime.
Doesn't that describe DropBox?
As for Adf.ly - I don't mind it for actual artists and modders, but i feel that as a whole, it's been detrimental to this place. I suppose that's what happens when you offer tangible money for essentially nothing i imagine.
I should note though - If there is no alternative link to go with the adf.ly one, i usually get upset as well.

Like, the Aether Mod, I click the heck out of any adf.ly link because that's a texture pack and a mod all together, an entire new universe added to the same.
So much work is put into that, it probably takes a huge chunk out of their time some nights just getting stuff done.
but, as with the Steam/Bukkit client, it's much more Minecraft friendly, honestly.
It's a really, REALLY good option for texture pack uploaders and modders alike.
I love when people make a bucket-fill pack and only provide an adf.ly link. It gives all the fun of trolling, while being 100% serious.
I have said this before(?), adf.ly links need to be regulated. Well-known and upcoming packs and artists could have the option of having adf.ly, while a pack posted today could not.
Since that would literally solve nothing, I propose there be code that allows only sectional moderators(?) to add adf.ly links to a post, and that they be flat-out impossible to post as a response.
But that's pointless extra work for us ;-;

I think threads should be allowed to be reported for using only adf.ly links, that way you don't have to do too much work, just find threads that are reported.
Since no one likes extra work, I understand your pain x3
As long as it is for original work, I see no issue with people using adf.ly for their only download link.
If you have an issue with it, you can take it up with them, rather then get us to implement a rule that tells people what they can or cannot do with their own work.
Other existing rules that already do this, such as bumping and advertising, are only in place because they impede other people's efforts to share their work, which an adf.ly link does not.

Rule #6:Adf.ly is not to be used as a quick scam to get money with each click equaling about $0.00125. It is not for that. adf.ly is to be used for packs that have alot of followers and people who are looking to support your work but that do not have the money to donate. Offer a Main Link (adf.ly) and a Direct Link to download your pack, allowing people to chose to help you out of not.
So, this rule right here isn't an official rule. D:
We're tired of no-screenshots bucket-fill adf.lys though.
No screenshots are against the rules, please report those threads.
If you have an issue with the thread, and it is of the low-standard of quality that you suggest, if you and everyone else ignore it, it will most likely sink fairly quickly. That's how it works.
I, for one, have absolutely no problem with people using Adf.ly, as long as a direct link is also available. As a pixel artist and texture pack maker myself, call me a greedy person (which I am), but I feel that my sole motivation for continuing my texture pack is the chance of earning a profit for it once you're done. Even if you are earning small amounts, it's good to have some compensation for your months of hard work.
Adding another rule that regulates or bans the use of Adf.ly would simply be something else for people to break, assuming they'd treat said rule the same way they treat the current rules regarding its use. Perhaps intervention from the moderators, banning the use of Adf.ly would consequently dissuade good pixel artists to make their packs, as they are void of motivation. Yes, there are those who simply enjoy the compliments and good feedback they receive from those using their pack, but some (like myself) would prefer monetary compensation for their hard work.
I have always attempted to use Adf.ly that directly links towards a charity or no adf.ly at all, but sadly I have never found a way. I think an adf.ly going to charity is fair as an only download.
I'm fine with adf.ly being used on packs that have clearly had time and effort put into them. Having shitty bucket fill packs with adf.ly links on them pisses me off.

Well, if it's such small amounts of money then they won't really earn anything without making a really good pack anyways, in a sense most of this is just laughable...
Just don't download those packs, usually packs like that aren't very good anyways...
Adfly is allowed for any original content. If you made it, you can put adfly on it. And while it may be common curtesy to use an alternate download link, you don't have to.
EDIT: And on a personal note, using adfly isn't 'greedy' unless you're trying to make money off of someone else's work. It doesn't cost the person clicking on it anything. So you have to wait 5 seconds. Boo-hoo.
I could care less about the wait, what matters to me is that people are expecting money for the half a minute they took to make another filtered default, or default edit, or bucket-fill pack.
It's annoying. Allowing them to use it just humours them.

And when they end up making an amount so small that they are not eligible to collect it, what do you suppose that does?
I understand well done artists who've put 300+ hours works into a texture pack.
But, something just aren't fitting for the profit or use of adf.ly and whereas you may not find it greedy, the
person is doing it out of a way to gain money. Honestly, I'd never even heard of adf.ly until I joined the texture pack community here.
That has to show something. Not every single person and there grandma has to spam or use it.

Seems like a mature and appropriate response, ya know.
The point is, not the money, the fact that people have the thoughts drilled into their head that they need to use adf.ly for everything here.
Using someone elses work isn't greedy, that's stealing.
Greed is the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods, or objects of abstract value with the intention to keep it for one's self
So, using a link that offers money just knowing that it's OMG MONEY can't be done out of anything other than greed if your work isn't that of quality worth selling.

It's not necessarily pointless extra work. But hey, I'm not the moderator here.
What Felix said would probably be a good solver.

If it isn't in the Mapping and Modding Sectional Rules it isn't an official rule. The posting tips from the Texture Pack Central, are community-made posting tips.
