This. Looks like a very nice guide and covers many of the current features. You can even change the logs to have different colored cross-sections with CTM.

The ctm guide in that thread works with optifine then? xP
Actually yes. Optifine does provide support for Extended Connected Textures.
Is there a confirmed list what extended CTM works on Optifine and is the latest version the only one that has this? I can only get basic CTM to work on Optifine with the version i'm running 1.3.2 HD U B3 but the same files work fine for MC Patcher.

Granted, Optifine's extended CTM is a bit less refined than MCPatcher's since sp614x is more concerned with optimizing the game and boosting FPS. However, I've taken advantage of Optifine's extended CTM since Minecraft's 1.2.5 patch using A Texture Artist's Guide to MCPatcher Features as a guideline as to how to set up the .properties files. Everything I've done has worked like randomization, horizontal, vertical and the original basic CTM.
I'm currently running Optifine HD A2 Ultra 1.4.6 and extended CTM is working fine for me.
Edit:
Oooh! I misread that you're running 1.3.2! Hm, if I remember correctly, when I used Optifine's extended CTM functionality in 1.3.2 it worked out for me. So no, extended CTM for Optifine is not for the latest version only; it's been supported for several patches now.

Ah thanks for getting back to me, its good to know what it can and can't do as i'd rather have SEUS shaders and Optifine than MC patcher.
The CTM below is really what I want to use but nothing shows in Optifine.......... but i'm guessing MC is quite a bit further ahead on CTM tricks as Optifine as you said is more FPS and visual.
If you think this works, could i possibly send you the files to try this? It is one of 4 properties files.
By this i mean stuff like glass, where instead of repeating it connects to make a bigger glass

No. CTM for optifine is the original version. You have to use the CTM.png included in the Optifine mod.
