You have blown right past drama queen status and gone straight to raving on the streetcorner with a big sign.
No you're wrong! Mediafire will be the direct cause of 2012! It is already written! The end is upon us!
I LOL'd so hard
Edit: I forgot to say how much I agree with this topic xD

Question is who is willing to take up the task? I would but my modding skills are probably as crippled as a turtle covered in honey and duct-tape on an interstate highway.
You noobs running your mouths about AdBlock are completely and utterly missing the point. What countermeasures you're using matters not one bit.
MediaFire engages in some rather shady practices that are very possibly resulting in malware and keyloggers being installed on some people's machines. That is very freakin' bad and is more than enough reason for users to start shunning that site. This isn't a matter of "not having your best interests in mind" or "amg I hate ads", it's a matter of "they are using you as a patsy to lure your 'audience' within reach of what may well be criminal enterprises"..
It is all about what countermeasure you are using to use the internet.
If your talking about some guy using internet explorer , allowing all popups and clicking on ever add he sees?
They need to wake up and get better protected before they click on a really bad site.
Just boot up Linux inside Virtualbox and access it using Firefox with NoScript, FlashBlock and AdBlock, then restore the VM to a previous state when done.
I actually do this when I need to go to certain sites.
LOLOLOLOLOLOL I second this
I can't tell if you're both being serious or not. I'm really really hoping that you're both pulling my leg. If you're not then I'm absolutely stunned. Stockholm syndrome much? Maybe, and that's a really big maybe, I would be bothered to do something like this if there was no other place on the entire internet to access something that would literally change my life. Say something like actual real-life HD cell phone footage of leprechaun and unicorn porn being watched aboard a UFO by Obama and Buddha; while they are served drinks by a naked Scandinavian girls roller derby team.
I don''t know if he's serious but I just thought it was funny I don't do this.
i use FireFox and have the pop-up blocker, and i still get pop-ups on mediafire . last time i was there i had to restart my computer it got so bad. Now, whether or not that has to do with me not having any form of antivirus is a story for another day, but still, you get the point.
oh, and this gives me an idea for a new mob. its called the pop up creeper. when it explodes it opens up your browser and fills the screen with thousands of ads for viagra
This thread's OP gets my approval 100%. Mediafire should be boycotted as it hosts shady ads. I saw an ad there once that looked like the download link, so I clicked it. Oh, it was a download link. It downloaded adware and now I cant launch IE without ads popping up everywhere. I don't use IE very much, so it isn't a big deal, but the fact that Mediafire does this is just wrong.
At present, I think the problems that people here are having are weird. I consider AdBlock a necessity for surfing the Internet, period. And with AdBlock installed, Mediafire is 100% problem free.
Of course, that's only in Firefox. In Chrome, the way AdBlock works is that the browser still downloads all of the ads and whatnot, THEN removes from from the display. In Firefox, it completely stops the browser from even downloading the ads. And that can make a world of a difference with malware at times, so I'd venture that Chrome users aren't safe ever.
The responses to this thread illustrate the issues with the world (outside Minecraft). No one cares about anyone else.
If that were true, then ad-blocking software would not exist. If the internet is too intense for you then go play outside instead. Oh but then you'd probably get hit by a car because 'no one cares about anyone else'.
Mediafire is fine, it lets you download as many parallel downloads with a decent speed, and if you have adblock you don't get any of the ads anyway. http://ifile.it/ <--- this site also allows you to do that, without the ads, but not many people use it, unfortunately. And "Oh EM Ge3 1 pursun wnt dnlode mi file!" Gratz instead of getting 100 downloads a person who used mediafire will only get 99 oh teh noez.
I had all of the addons and blockers in Firefox and MF still popped up ads for about a week last month. Then they stopped again...weird
Anyway, the ads on Media Fire are around 75% regular and the rest are the worst kind. Redirecting me, asking me "Are you sure you don't wanna" with a yes/cancel option. So I hate them too. Like I hate all free sites that offer you an account then cut it off or hinder it in some way (Photobucket trying to tell me I had used my 10gb a month bandwidth O.o)
I have one of my mirrors as MF cause a TON of people still trust them and will go there and seem to not want to download from my free Google site (which is also odd).
Now I have two more to use also or instead cause of this thread :biggrin.gif:

"This may hurt a little, but it's something you'll get used to...."
I have been using mediafire for 3 years, with no antivirus or adblocking, and I have never gotten a single virus or pop up.
my advice: use Firefox. If you've already done so, delete your cookies and flash cookies, that way ads and sites cannot track you and your interests. And never click ads.
I still have no idea why people are getting so upset over these sites. It's relatively easy to avoid them.

Yeah, I use three sites for hosting my texture packs - Minecraft Workbench, Mediafire, and CloudApp. CloudApp is a very simple, clean, ad-free, and safe site that's super easy and quick to download from. But my files get literally ten times more downloads on MediaFire (and even more on MCWB, but that's obviously going to happen with Minecraft materials - they'll ALWAYS see more downloads on a Minecraft website).
Megaupload is super crappy, it has a download limit I think.

Seriously? Get some free popup-blocking programs and stop crying about it

Dropbox is great.
but...
MediaFire is WAY BETTER than the more common free file hosts such as: MegaUpload, Rapidshare, really anything that:
1.) Forces you to wait a minute to click download? (Utter BS)
2.) Only 1 download at a time? (Utter BS)
3.) Limited downloads per day? Utter BS!
