So what if you know how to secure your browser. This is about providing the best experience to everyone, including the majority of people who are not you.
It's modders choice on what server do they upload their mods, not yours. I agree with ALL upload server (except sharecash, that really sucks and don't even work in my country), and i can download everything from them without any problem. And it's not a problem to enable popup blocker and install adblock for your browser. Man that's just like 3 clicks... You all are just too lazy to do that...
Get Firefox, get Ad-Block Plus Add-On (and use their EasyList USA filter)
I have never seen any popups, ads, etc. And you can still disable it on sites you still want to give ad-revenue to.
I hear people complain about ads on youtube. Never seen one. I give credit to ABP.
I'm on a mac and i use chrome and safari, chrome with an adblock safari without. Mediafire is like the best site download speeds are instant and so are upload speeds. Never seen an ad, no waits and you don't have to pay if your just downloading or uploading minimally. But if you refuse to use that site never ever upload to a site that makes the downloader wait. WHY THE **** SHOULD I WAIT A MINUTE TO DOWNLOAD A TEXTURE PACK (sorry for shouting) but seriously I want to download one file and it makes me wait a minute. I absolutely hate it. I ran across this site http://filesmelt.com/home/homepage today and it looks decent and all check it out.

It occurs to me that one good way to provide the best experience for the maximum number of people would be to let them all know that blocking ads on websites is a very very easy thing to do. It's so stupidly easy, I can't imagine why anybody would choose not to do it, once they know the option exists. Get AdBlock (or the equivalent for whatever arcane browser you like) and your problems are solved.

Just trying to teach people to fish, ya know?
Except people don't secure their browsers. So why should we support a site that pushes intrusive ads.
Really, do you think if you put steps for every browser to be secure along with steps to download and install a texture pack, that anyone will bother? Maybe you'll get a few people to just say no to ads, but a lot less people will make it all the way to downloading your pack. Either that or they'll just skip to the stuff they came for.
The lesson: it's not the user's fault that intrusive advertising pays well. They shouldn't have to, and really aren't interested in, working around it. If they were, they'd have done it already. Go ahead and tell everyone you want how to get away from ads, but don't support obnoxious advertising just because you don't see it.
...but don't support obnoxious advertising just because you don't see it.
I don't support it. I don't condemn it. I am totally ambivalent about the obnoxious advertising precisely because I don't see it. That's the entire point. Contrary to the meme, I have indeed unseen the ads. (Somebody said Youtube has ads too? Huh. Never knew that.)
Preaching the virtues of adblockers does not equate to supporting obnoxious ads. Preaching the virtues of adblockers in an attempt to educate and edify your fellowman is an effort to improve that fellowman's browsing experience, and it was irritating to see that effort condemned as a display of selfishness when it is in fact exactly the opposite. That's my only dog in this race; that dog has now run so I'll shut up about it now. Have a nice day.
To be as clear as possible: I don't give two shits what site anybody uses to share their files, as long as it doesn't make you create an account or wait a minute before downloading. (Kinda off topic, but is there a way to get around the wait on those things? Anybody want to teach me to fish?)
Pardon me, I got you mixed up with the others who have preached the virtues of mediafire while mentioning they've installed plugins specifically to avoid these things.
It's like saying crime is not a problem because I've hired a bodyguard.
Lol... Even when you DON'T install any adblock plugin or anything like that you just have to press the X button, and that confirms my theory that you all are just a bunch of lazy people...
Just assume that if you use Mediafire I will never see your files. Because I won't. Screw that crap.
Okay. I guess you won't be downloading my stuff then because there is literally no problem with Mediafire and any problems the site did have are solved now.
Well dang now everyone is going to stop uploading to Media Fire !!! lulz..
Im not sure whats so bad about Mediafire (anyone worth their salt uses NoScript, etc., etc,) but I can imagine. Im guessing it's something to do with REVENUE ? Im just guessing.Thought every FREE file hosting site had horrible popups/click and browser hijacking going on.
This sub-forum is for texture packs, not about your opinion on a good filehost due to your lack of defensive ad-blocking addon or toolbar, what have you.
I've never experienced an issue with Mediafire. Dropbox is a good alternave however.

I second this
When the advertisement pops up you're supposed to hit that little "X" in the top right corner
But I always make sure to have a mirror just in case (mostly just for mediafire haters)
Same here my mirror is 4shared wich is Hippocratic to my above post but its just a mirror I don't expect people to use it

Can we at least get this moved? It's beginning to grow mold.
Currently working on making a server. kcoolwgatdubmoicjambleberry

Agreed with entirely
No, not every free file hosting website has these. Dropbox is a good example, it's free and doesn't have any obnoxious advertisements.
