Don't tell me how I should use a browser that can't be taken over by your DL site. Don't tell me I should use defensive software so your DL site can't break my browser. Don't tell me how to keep your DL site from spawning windows, pop-unders, audio ads and countless other random ********.
Just assume that if you use Mediafire I will never see your files. Because I won't. Screw that crap.
Use a free host that doesn't suck or be a part of their scam based system. I don't care. I can't go there ever again and I am glad!
Dropbox.com is free. 2GB hosting 10GB/ day transfer limit. There are a lot of other non-crappy hosts out there. I don't care what you use, but I won't ever go to Mediafire again. FTS.
I use google chrome with adblock and I've never seen an ad on mediafire, experienced any popups, or anything like that. I'm sure you don't care, but it's ridiculously easy to not get bogged down with any of that ********. Your point is valid though, mediafire's download rates are **** poor now.
This sub-forum is for texture packs, not about your opinion on a good filehost due to your lack of defensive ad-blocking addon or toolbar, what have you.
I've never experienced an issue with Mediafire. Dropbox is a good alternave however.
I use adblock as well as no script on Firefox... I still ****ing HATE that site. It's given me way too many problems in the past for me to just pass it over...

This is the forum where all the people who make, and upload, the packs hang out. Seems like a perfectly reasonable place for it. And I like Copper enough to change for his word against mediafire only.
CloudApp tracks downloads, it would seem, so I'll be moving to that.
Thanks for the link and recommendation for cloudapp. I was unaware of it and, so far, I like the integration methods a lot. I'm a paid dropbox user and I'll probably continue to use it for commercial purposes, but I have Cloudapp now as well and I'll test it out and see which one I prefer to use long-term.
spanaren,
Welcome to the Minecraftforums. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I posted my opinion here too. I did so to hopefully influence, even if only slightly, the choices others make in hosting their Minecraft content to better everyone's experience here. I didn't suggest that I know the minds of every other user, only my own. I made that clear in my post. I understand that you disagree. I'm cool with that.
I use mediafire for a month or so, never saw an ad or had any problems whatsoever, uploading or downloading...I think that might be because I have noscript and adblock installed though.
What kind of problems do exist for vanilla browsers?..
On XP mediafire will do all the nastiness in the OP as well as lock up my browser, Firefox. On reopen, of course, FF reloads all those evil pages and we go around again.
It really isn't unmanageable but I shouldn't have to manage and defend against an aggressive and malicious website to download a texture pack. Fortunately I don't.

You should manage and defend in general, not just because of mediafire. The internet is a very nasty place bro.
But people should stop using mediafire simply because their dl rates are stupid slow now.
I have no problems with mediafire and the only addons I have for my firefox is greasemonkey(no ad protector scripts) and a translator... I mean I do get a popup every once and a while but thats it...

Another alternative is CloudApp, it serves a similar function to DropBox.

What, how.

I was wondering the same thing...
Sleekcraft! Check it out!
I'm using google chrome with adblock as well

It's ok. If you do ever make a texture pack, just use a better host for your files and I will.
Use MegaUpload and I won't download your files. That's even shittier, dawg.

no on-click mediafire ads ever
