Welcome to my guide on how to install a texture pack! Of course, there are many other guides available, but I make sure that mine are always simple, easy to understand, and comprehensible. Plus, it's always nice to have variety.
While nearly every texture pack will work, we'll be using the Painterly Pack created by "Rhodox" as it is both very popular and customizable. If you are using a different texture pack, please only refer to the red text.
Step 1.
The first step is to find your texture pack. You can do this by searching for your texture pack. Google is a good way to do this. We'll be using the Painterly Pack, but there are plenty of other ones. The first thing you'll want to do is go to their website by clicking here.
Step 2.
You should be at the website of the texture pack at this step. You'll be faced with three different buttons:
The first one is the default button. If you don't want to customize your experience and would prefer the default or Christmas versions, head to the "First Button & Third Button" section. Want to customize how the texture looks, head to the "Second Button" option.
First Button & Third Button
So you've decided to go for the default packs. All right, click on the button you want and you should get something similar to this:
Download the texture pack and save it to your computer (your desktop is recommended). You can now move onto "Step 3."
Second Button
Looking for a more customizable experience? Great, you've come to the right place! Click on the second button and you should be greeted with this:
This is where you do the customizing. Under the "Donate" button, there are buttons that you press that choose the texture of each individual object. All you have to do is click the button that has the texture you want. If you want more detail, hover over the small image.
There are many options so if you want to quickly select them, skim through it and just look at the bare essentials. The Painterly Pack is already very good so you might not have to re-select each and every button. There is, however, something that you may want changed: Water. Water is near the very bottom:
If you want to change your water so that it is different than the normal water and similar to this, head down to the "Customizing Water" section. If not, head on over to the "Finishing" section:
Customizing Water:
I never particularly liked the normal water either. Anyways, you're going to want to select the type of water you want. There are two options:
1. Include MCPATCHER animation files for light water.
2. Include MCPATCHER animation files for dark water.
Once you choose the one you want, click down at the very bottom of the page, "Create my Painterly Pack!". This should cause a download screen to come up:
Download the texture pack and save it to your computer (your desktop is recommended).
Next you'll want to download a program called "HD texture fix". You can do this by clicking here.
Scroll down to "LATEST DOWNLOAD:" and download the appropriate version to your computer. Go ahead and open it up. Check the box next to "Texture Pack" and then, to the far right, click "Browse". Find the place where you downloaded the texture pack with the water customized and click on it. Then simply press "Patch", wait for it to finish, and you're done! You can now close the program and proceed to "Step 3."
Finishing:
Once you choose the one you want, click down at the very bottom of the page, "Create my Painterly Pack!". This should cause a download screen to come up:
Download the texture pack and save it to your computer (your desktop is recommended). You may now proceed to "Step 3."!
Step 3.
You're almost done! Open "Minecraft" and login if you haven't already. Select "Mods and Texture Packs":
Once you click on the button, click on "Open texture pack folder" and navigate to the .zip folder that your plugin is in. Double click on it and it should now be available in the Minecraft menu!
Step 4.
Congratulations, the texture pack is installed! To use it, simply switch to it and select "Done"!

Saying "it doesn't work" isn't helpful. You have to describe why it doesn't work.
