I have returned from my break! I have to say, I preferred it when I was winning by default ;]
I took a sneaky look at the thread a few days back, and thought Zhylla's was amazing. Then I saw Zamaj's.. Kudos, you are a better artist than I. I would be happy for you to win. Though, if anyone wants to vote for me, that's fine too!
Yeah, it's kinda sad...
Also, the ones who actually finished the challenge don't get a single vote, lol (I suppose Ultrablobman voted himself? hope I'm wrong); I mean, I really like zamaj's work and all, and I actually prefer the voting to be this way (it would have been totally uncool if he wasn't allowed to enter the contest) but I feel like the fact that we actually finished the challenge should have a little more weight.
I know that higher resolution packs take more time and effort, but I'm not entirely sure this is actually the case here with such a limited palette; I feel that with lower resolutions, you depend a lot on hues and color values to make textures recognizable and clear, with a distinct look and feel, while with bigger textures you have more space and can make it clear with less variation; at least that's what I was thinking halfway through while sketching textures for this.
Kudos to him for realizing that a HR pack was the way to go!
But anyway, it was a pretty cool experience to try and I'm pretty happy with my work being as they are my first textures ever; I'll definitely try to make my own texture pack with a full palette (lol) when I have a little more spare time.

Yes, I agree with everything you say. I wasn't saying it as an excuse, just something to be aware of. I actually think that 16x is harder, especially with such a limited palette. I was just trying to make something I thought would be possible to make look the best.
Would anyone mind if I cast a vote, seeing how lopsided the poll is? (The lop wouldn't effect my vote)
Higher res takes longer, but I'll go ahead and say lower resolutions are harder. That's why I work near-strictly in 32x. :3

Yeah, I know and you did it really well!
It was actually kinda hard for me to express what I felt without coming out as an ass or undervaluing your work, which I definitely didn't want to, but I also wanted to let everyone know what I thought.
Well, everyone had a great run, but it appears that zamaj is going to get t victory on this one. Zamaj's stylization and the use of the colors worked best out of all the packs, and when you are competing packs that are 16x and more simple in style against higher res and pixelarty, well, it is really tough. But don't worry UltraBlobMan and Zhylla, keep at it and you will get much further.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
The official Bluebird continuation is underway! Please come and help keep the pack alive!
A bit longer cushion time than I originally planned, but I had school.
Good luck!
P.S. Not too many people are really looking at this topic, I feel. Should I post that the voting has begun somewhere, something like that?

Why not? You did start this after all :3

I get the WEIRDEST Feeling of Old iD Software games seeing this :3
