With the addition of languages in the 1.1 update, we can now delightfully confuse ourselves by selecting various humorous languages such as pirate speak, or Klingon. But, some of these languages, such as pirate speak, while amusing, can be hard to read on signs and such, with their thin lettering.
Now, if you've ever gone into the fonts folder in your minecraft.jar file, you've probably noticed three distinct things: the default folder (English text), the alternate folder, and a bunch of glyph folders. These glyph folders are the different languages.
I dont know about the other languages, but glyph_00.png is the pirate speak file.If you'll open it with an editing program, such as GIMP, or Photoshop, you'll notice several differences between the default file and this file. For one, Its 256x256, not 128x128 like the default file. That means It's impossible to bring in the default font into it without resizing the file first.
Secondly, the file's layout is a bit different, with words in small boxes instead of random symbols above and below the file, but this doesnt make a difference (what are they for, anyway?).
So, I went and resized the default file, and then brought it in. It fit like a charm, but when I opened minecraft, here's what happened:
what happened is that minecraft only reads the extreme left of each 16x16 space each symbol occupies, and the default font exceeds that "reading limit", if that makes any sense. Something like this:
So that's why everything is messed up with a "thicker" font than the default pirate speak font.
But I wasn't deterred. I wanted to see if I could get anything that looks similar to the default into the pirate speak font. So I resized....and resized...and resized the lowercase "a".....until it fit into the boundaries.
And here's what I got ( the a is highlighted in red):
I dont know about the other fonts (please post below if you tried with another language), but unless you want a super small regular font, changing the pirate speak font to the regular one will not work.

I believe this is because the pirate font is twice as big as default, so you need to enable some sort of HD font fix. Try MCpatcher and Optifine to see if it resolves the problem.

being forced to choose to stay outside.
My advice: Just keep movin’ straight ahead.
Every now and then you find yourself in a different place."

I was using optifine when i took those pictures. Also, do you know if the glyph_sizes.bin folder has anything useful in it, or what it does?

Sorry, I'm afraid that's just how the game reads the glyph_00.png file. It is a higher res, so each character can take up less space. It isn't just and upscaled version of the regular font layout, notice how the miscellaneous characters are in different spaces as well.
What you can do though, is go in your .JAR, and switch the .LANG names of en_US.lang and en_PT.lang, and english will show pirate words, but with the regular font

YES!!!! Finally! Thank you so much. You are awesome! And I was in the middle of changing the entire font. Thanks!
P.S. Do you mind if I make another thread about this, seeing as there are no topics about this?

Well, It doesnt get much attention, and whats the point of erasing everything when you can make a new topic....What do you think?
Well, I guess create a new topic because I doubt it will be in texture discussion anyways.
Just make sure to mention me

What do you mean, that this should not go in the texture discussion?
Well maybe it could be here, I guess it does involve font. I was thinking about the .LANG files and it screwed me up.
Yeah, I just say change this topic into it, I mean, your problem is solved, and this thread will rot otherwise.

Just that you should talk more about it. Such as, it should be used on languages that use romantic letters (pirate speak, french, ect.) not something like Arabic, lol.

I'm not sure it wont rot if I change this topic into it....and plus, there would be these random comments, and ppl would be like, wtf?

And up until these last few posts, they weren't random, they were about the problem.
