I've been working really hard on making a texture pack. But I seem to be stuck. No matter what I do, I take weeks to finish a single texture, and I never finish a single pack. What is the technique that the veterans use?
How can they make packs so detailed, it blows my mind? I use a 32x resolution, and yet my texture packs never do well, they are always a disorganized mismatch of different texturing styles, of simple and cartoonish textures looking out of place among the almost real, realistic textures, and then there are those simple, clean and smooth textures that simply cannot fit in amongst the rest.
I cannot find a way to stick with one style for all the textures. I don't know how to make realistic grass, I don't know how to make cartoonish bedrock, not even smooth and simple soul sand.
Is there some sort of secret to making textures? Am I missing something? Or do I just suck?

A lot of people think there's something wrong with me. And they would be right.
Too bad they're always wrong about what is wrong with me.
In my opinion, to become a good artist you need two things: talent and practice.
You'll need a little talent to become artist, but the main part is how much you practice. The good thing is that YOU can decide how much you practice. As you said you got some good looking textures, so you maybe just want to do them again and soon you'll have your own style and a nice texture pack.
One other piece of advice I can give you is that you may want to make some of your textures in groups. For example when editing the gui images, I usually edit them one after another, but all on the same day, so everything is in the same style and the gui looks consistently.
The 'secret' is knowing what you're doing. I'm pretty sure Wayuki has an artistic background.
You know what helps? Emulating others. No, really, grab the texture packs you like, open them up, zoom in, and analyze. After that, try to recreate what they did from scratch. Not perfect, just functional. Tutorials also helps.
And if you ask me, making 32x is actually much easier than 16x because you have more place to add details.
If all else fails then well, maybe it's just not for you.

Lol, all I have is practice:p
Another good key to packs is to find a look you like and go for it. I usually start the moment I get an idea, so I can at least have a reference.

...But that's just my opinion.
