I have started many texture packs, but never finished any of them. I enjoy making textures for them at first, but quickly lose the motivation to keep going, getting bored with it. How do others keep themselves going, making completely finished texture packs, or knowing that such a goal will be reached?
I find my motivation in the thought that once I am done with my texture pack, people will use and enjoy it. One of the main reasons I started making textures was because the creator of Faithful32x32 (Vattic) was just swamped by how many requests he got for mod support for his texture pack, but how few of them he could do at one time. So I decided to give texturing a go for the first time and create the mod support for his texture pack for the portal gun mod. When I was finished I received several thankyous from him and the people requesting the mod support due to the portal gun textures not being his strong point. So I continued to create support where others requested it and now I believe that Faithful32x32 now has between 20-40 mods supported, and of which I think I contributed to 7 or 8.
So really if you think to yourself while you are making your texture pack that if you finish, you will be giving back to this community that has for long provided for you, then I expect you to have much motivation to "keep on truckin'".
Or you could just like art, that's good too.

Im making myself a new signature soon, but im les tired.
I both like art and the thought that people will eventually use the pack, but even with both in mind, I eventually get bored with anything I make and it ends up just another abandoned project.

Well it sounds like you need some drugs for your ADD.
Actually no, I completely am against drugs to settle ADD, ADD is a gift not a burden, and don't have anyone say otherwise.
IDK if you actually have ADD, but if you do that might be why, because that is how my brother is, never finishes things and he has ADD.

I can't see how ADD would be a gift, never finishing these texture packs is extremely annoying. >_<
Well, I have yet another texture pack started, and I'm having more fun with this, but somehow I doubt I'll be keeping it up. :I
Edit: I wanted to say something, but not to bump such an old post, so I put this as an edit.
Time heals all wounds, physical or otherwise.
(I am getting a bit more interested in my texture pack right now. Not sure how long it'll last, but hopefully a while. :smile.gif:)

Well my brother has ADD and ended up taking the easy way out by getting the worse possible diploma for highschool due to him not being able to pay attention in class. Instead of paying attention in class he would draw amazing art on his forearm. Basically what they used to do is slap you on the wrist and take away whatever you are goofing off with. Now they give you drugs (which are basically speed) to help calm you and stay focused. Really ADD is creativity labeled as a medical term. So I suggest you look at texturing from the creative side instead of the work side, then you will find your full potential.

Actually ADD is a mental condition in which focusing attention on something that doesn't particularly interest you for extended periods of time is extraordinarily difficult, even with a focus of will. It's not "creativity". However, as I have said before, I feel my ADD is both a blessing and a curse. It makes it difficult to focus attention, but when I do it takes my full concentration, allowing me to tune out distractions and work out some amazing results.
You don't keep going. Take a break, and eventually revisit them when you feel the drive to pixel again. That's what I do, and usually my texture pack benefits from it as my quality usually is much better when I revisit.

What you just read was the medical definition. What I am saying that the medical definition is skewed so that ordinary people have an excuse for prescribed speed. It's similar to the abuse of medicinal marijuana in a sense. And like you said, people can excel with ADD and without drugs because it allows them to only pay attention to one thing. For my brother it was his arm drawings, which thus provide creativity.
