That is an annoyingly common misconception: solidifying colours on a 16x16 canvas will have absolutely no effect on your FPS. Minecraft must render 256 pixels in every texture, regardless of what colours they are. It needs to render each pixel to decide what colour it is, and it doesn't notice what colour any adjacent pixels are. As long as a pack is 16x16, it won't have any FPS benefit.
The solidified, simplified bucket fill idea is something that has been done over a hundred times in the past few months alone. I would not recommend making them because they only lead to arguments, as regulars to the texture packs forum deal with these identical bucket fill/simplified packs on a daily basis. There is no FPS benefit, so instead try to make the draw of a pack it's aesthetic appeal, since that is what most people look for in a pack.
There are mostly one-coloured blocks.
It also makes your fps higher.
