I do think the patterns are a bit distracting, which is why I recommended the worn-looking carvings...but now that I see what that looks like, now I'm thinking worn away at parts of it or subtle cracks running through the blocks, because clay really doesn't like cooperating in real life when it comes to staying how you want it to.
Are those every hardened clay or is there an undyed one? I haven't really gotten into the snapshot yet, but I like that they added hardened clay, as I've wanted a brownish-colored stone for a while so I could make some nice natural mountains and cliffs...and Khazad-dum. So yeah. I'm fine with intricate colored clay, just as long as I get my sedimentary stone!

Compare it to this one that has no carving, and see what you think:
I'm against the worn-looking carvings because I don't think it'll tile well if it looks 'worn'. Wear is never uniform.
Also, if you can't get hardened clay to keep it's shape you're using some pretty poo-poor clay.

It's a reddish color in both the default and in my pack. Sorry.
Edit:The other way I was thinking of going with this block is to have it smooth with kind of a sculpted bevel edge to it. Like a clay die without any pips. Thoughts?
Hmm...that last idea sounds interesting, so I'd have to see it to decide, but I think I like the patterns more than the plain ones, though. What I meant by the clay not staying how you want it to, at the time I was thinking of just hand-molding it and then shoving it into a load of heat to harden it. I haven't actually used clay much, and probably not since I was 7 years old, so my thoughts on that are actually pretty useless, I guess. Back to the YouTubes! AWAY!

Here's two new variations for you to look at.
A Smoother variant. Ignore the obvious lines. They'll be ironed out if I go with this version.
The smooth with bevel that I mentioned in my last post:
I think I already know which version I want to go with, but I'd like to hear opinions before I commit to anything. I'm not going to say which one I prefer because I don't want to sway anyone to just agree with me, so please be honest about which variation you like.
Also, if you can think of any other permutations you'd like to see let me know.

Ah, yea, that'd give a guy that impression. But no, that's not how good clay or a proper kiln works.
For just the color part, the plain one is nice, but for clay, I'd go with the beveled, though the white and black look oddly out of place. I'm torn on what version I'd like using for building more, but from the current aesthetic of the pack, I think I'll have to go with the bevel. Who knows. Maybe they'll add a colored sand and you can use the smoother version as a springboard.
I have made a couple really bad videos on YouTube, but I've been thinking of making better quality ones as of late. At that moment I was watching videos, though. If you really want to see my channel, it's LegoShadowReaperX, and I'll probably end up posting LEGO animations and some various gaming if I can get it to record at a decent frame rate. Bit o' shameless self-advertising there.

Do you prefer the bevel over the patterns?
I doubt they'll make colored sand... unless they fix the rendering engine and we get stained glass.
I'm working on yet another version right now. It's similar to the first set with the patterns, but a bit cleaner and with better colors. For now, give your feedback and I'll see about incorporating it.
Sorry I'm asking for so much feedback. These are blocks I feel that I'll be building with a LOT, so I want to get them perfect!
OK, after reading the feedback and weighing my own feelings on the matter, I think that this new one is the version I'm going to go with:
It's similar to the first version, except that I changed the colors to be more earthy and altered the patterns on many of the blocks. I decided to make them all straight-line geometric patterns as they seem to look better on this block. Between that and the rough grain of the hardened clay, these blocks feel very solid and unique without being distracting or loud.
These are much better. Nice and claylike. And patterny. And nice. And words. And compliments.
Yea, yea. But what do you REALLY think of it.
Here's another question for everyone: I'm thinking of animating some of the redstone-active stuff like dispensers and droppers. Do you think this is a good idea? I'm honestly on the fence about it. On one hand, it'll be cool. On the other hand, it'll be kind of annoying to see movement for certain blocks all the time. I pulled it off with powered rails... but I don't know if it's a good thing for every redstone-powered block. Give me your thoughts on this.
I'll probably release a new version of this pack when I finish with whatever is added in the next snapshot. Stay tuned.
How would the dispensers and droppers be animated, exactly? But as for the general question, anything you can make look sparkly but unobtrusively would be fine. Examples being the block, active dust, torch(?), ore(?). But those are pretty typical for animated redstone stuff, so whatever you think would work in Minecraft, I guess.

The dispenser has a pattern of flowing energy on the front, and the inner-workings occasionally cycle around. The dropper is similar, but the inner workings constantly move as the oscillators within the dropper await an item to drop.
It's a bit distracting, but it doesn't look bad. I don't know. When I publish the next version, I'd like some feedback on it. If you like it I'll also apply the same kind of animation to some other blocks like the piston.

I'm still settling on what all I want to do. I want to get feedback on what I've done before moving on. Animations are time consuming, and I don't want to spend a load of time if nobody likes them.

You're always so agreeable.

Producing or watching? If you're producing, let me know and I'll sub (if you're any good).
Please post feedback on which version of the stained clay blocks you like the best!!!

The dispenser and dropper are both finished. Any suggestions for other redstone-active blocks I should animate?

Also, who likes my new avatar? I just made it like...two minutes ago.
yeah looks awesome, I am a terrible artist, have gone to avatar stores but they always close right after I make my submission D:
