Hello! Before you comment, please know a few things. I am not an artist. My knowledge of The Gimp is very limited, and is basically what I have learned to get by at work over the years. So what you see in this texture pack is the result of a lot of trial and error, messing with and learning about filters, and tweaking various color/hue/lightness/saturation sliders.
These textures started as a result of my getting tired of the gray color of stone and bland wood color of the default pack, as well as the rather unattractive default cobblestone. After putting together something that I liked to replace those, I thought, "Why not see what else I can do?" Since then I have slowly been picking away at the other blocks while using the default terrain.png as a guide.

I value your opinion of the pack! I realize that it is still a work in progress and there is a lot of work to do. That means that as I continue to pick away at the remaining textures, I am open to suggestions, opinions, and feedback that will help shape the final product. So, please, feel free to share your thoughts, screen shots, etc. I will do my best to answer each post.
Thanks so much for taking the time to check out my texture pack. I hope you enjoy it!

Please feel free to use the textures created by me, wmminecraft, in your remixes, compilations, etc. Should you feel compelled to do so, I ask only that you notify me in advance, and that your distribution properly credits me for my work. In addition, please do NOT use my textures in a fashion by which you will collect a profit of any kind (e.g. adfly).

Please remember that this texture pack is not finished. Many blocks still use the textures found in the default pack.
Wow! Thanks all for the positive responses. I wasn't sure what to expect.
I haven't included a download link yet because I feel like there is so much left to do. Perhaps I'll add one this evening after I can get some more of the blocks finished.
Well I haven't had as much time as I'd hoped to work on this since my earlier post. However, I was able to get a few more things done this evening. I've done chests, cactus to make it a bit less bright than the default, wooden doors, (clay) brick blocks, birch logs, and bookshelves. I'm not sure I like the doors as they are at the moment, so I may revisit those later. And now in the picture above I see there is a bit of touching up which needs to be done on the big chest.
Here are some screen shots which include those blocks. Feedback is welcome and appreciated!
EDIT: Removed the screenshots and put them into the original post.
Looks freaking sexy, but a little tip: you need a little shading under your sidegrass. It looks a little silly without it, but other than that I am loving it. :biggrin.gif:

You know, the cobblestone is something I have been wondering about. When I started working on the first few textures, that was one of them. I went through many attempts to make a cobblestone texture that I liked. Finally I gave up and went to something I knew I could do on 16x AND have it look decent. I've been kind of torn on whether or not to leave it as those bricks or continue to try for something that resembles cobblestone. Your comments have me leaning toward the former.
I'm not sure what I'll do for stone bricks because the cobblestone already resembles what I imagine stone bricks should look like. I could try something with different colored mortar. Maybe a different shade for the stone - sort of a refined version? Gonna have to think about that.
Your comment about the ores is certainly noted. Those were among the first that I worked on, and I've actually learned a few things about the tools in The Gimp since then. So I will certainly be taking a second look at them.
Change the glow stone. It looks very, well to be honest pathetic, compared to the rest of the pack. I'd expect to see that glowstone in a simple pack mybe. Otherwise, great job!
Thanks Unh3lpful! I've actually had an idea for the glowstone that has been stewing in my mind, so I plan on making a change to it. The one you see there in the pics was something relatively quick I put in because I can't stand the default glowstone. Yuck!
I managed to make a bit of progress tonight. Unfortunately I went through several time consuming iterations of the mossy blocks before finally settling on ones about which I feel good. After that I worked on the cracked stone brick. I was going to work on the mob spawner, but wound up just doing a quick recolor of it, changing it to a black and dark red color.
I also spent quite a bit of time working on revamping the cobblestone and stone bricks following earlier comments. I like the final solution. My thought was that with cobble you're dealing with smaller pieces, so I've reduced the size of the bricks in the texture. The previous texture was then moved to the stone brick spot. I also reduced the clay brick size to match that of the new cobblestone.
Oh, the glowstone has a new look. I think it suits the overall feel of the pack much better than the earlier version.
I'm going to aim to having a download ready tomorrow night. There will certainly be many default textures included, but it'll be a good way to get some more feedback.

Side-note: Grass should have a bit of an outline between grass and dirt.
