I have a .PNG that shows all (or at least most) of the surfaces of blocks in Minecraft. How do I go about using this to change the textures, or am I going about it all wrong?
Well, my friend next to me said that I need to make separate images. With these images, what do I do?
You need to take the terrain.png and make your own textures in something like Gimp or photoshop or paint.net. There's a lot of stuff to texture, so maybe that's what your friend meant by "seperate images"
Use a phot editing software such as GIMP or Photoshop, import the terrain.png file (if you wish to create a 16x16 pack) and leave that alone for a while. Create a new image in gimp or photshop that matches the dimensions of texture you wish to edit (I.e. 16x16 32x32) once your done, keep all your textures in a folder, go back to the terrain.png, and place your new textures over the original texture that you had just edited. Sorry if that was a mouthful, hope it helped ^ ^

This is Massive Smurf, I;m just on my friend's computer.
So, I take the Terrain.png, edit the textures, then what do I do with the Picture? Do I have to have the Terrain.png exactly, or can I make a new .png and use that?
What you do is you copy everything you want to change, (so terrain.png, possibly items.png, and so on.) edit in a editing software,(such as Photoshop or gimp) and then put the changed stuff in a folder entitled "whatever you want the name of your texture pack to be" Then you go to the folder called Texture Packs (I think) and put your folder in there. Now, when you open minecraft, you'll be able to select your pack in the texture packs screen. You're done!
