Thanks! I have been so busy but I am trying to find time to finish the work to release my update. There are a decent amount of changes and whatnot that hopefully will sway you to use my pack!
I really enjoy using this texture pack I love the feel it gives to minectaft... the only things i would say is...
The sun had a odd square glow (but i looks like your sorting that out)
The sand has odd grid-like outlines to them which kind of ruins the feel...
Other than that... ITS AMAZING :laugh.gif: :biggrin.gif:
In the update to be released HOPEFULLY soon [depending on how busy I am]
Square sun = fixed
sand= better
:smile.gif:
My update has only a few more hours worth of work, so it may be released by the weekend, but I have been craazzy busy with work and my vacation. Sorry about the delay :sad.gif:
What resolution were the screenshots taken in? If it was 16x16, then I'm downloading this.
I'm assuming you are being sarcastic here... The 16 pack doesn't have that much detail lol. I am going to post a picture showing the difference of resolutions with this pack when I release my long-awaited update.
Thanks to everyone using my pack, and I look forward to the release!
Personally i dont think it looks very good so far but i believe it might improve and i don't want you to give up,
new texture packs are always a good thing and i like your ambition.
so good luck and i will try it when its finished.
PS: try the mipmapping mod.
I have put a lot of effort and changes into this pack, why don't you give it a whirl and tell me what you think and what resolution you try? Thanks :smile.gif:
Status update:
I have finally redone the entire artwork file to be images of art I have done and photos I have taken. Will be released along with some other changes by next week [kz.png]
Once again, thanks for using my pack and, as always, I love feedback!
overall i like the look of your texture pack and i like the direction you're going.
your textures flow nicely and they tile very well.
unfortunately i my computer just recently started to freak out from 256x texture packs, so i had to use your 128x version.
what i liked:
torches
doors (wood and iron)
furnaces, crafting bench, chests
grass (tiles very very nicely and looks good)
glowstone
water animations (yes yes yes. are they your own?)
GUI (looks excellent)
what i disliked (things that really bother me):
netherrack (looks kinda cartoon-ish)
reeds (big squares of huge reeds) texture needs a remake in my opinion. maybe smaller reeds with spaces in between them
sandstone (looks way too similar to sand).... (yes i know you told me that you are changing it) :tongue.gif:
nitpicks (just small things that bother me):
lava seems too dark
water flows too fast
bricks look too small
graininess of the textures (i know that hi-res packs run into this problem a lot, but i made an extra effort to remove as much graininess and noise from my pack as possible. if you want some tips and methods of reducing graininess ill be more than happy to explain how i do it)
by the way roads for minecart tracks is hillarious. i dont know if it was your intention to be funny, but i found it histerical and i loved the idea :smile.gif:
what i was ok with:
everything else :smile.gif:
keep at the texture making, you're doing very good work. by the way i would love to know how you did your still water animations, i would very much like something similar to it in my pack :smile.gif:
The "OptiFog+Optimine" Mod also enables the ability to use HD Textures, HD Fonts, and Better Grass (just like the HD Patcher does, which is no longer needed if you use "OptiFog+Optimine" instead). However, unlike the HD Patcher, the OptiFog+Optimine Mod additionally gives you a huge speed performance boost regardless of whether or not you're on a slow or fast computer. Also unlike the HD Patcher, it also allows you to tweak a lot of other aesthetic settings such as enabling additional effects or modifying cloud heights and fog distance, animations, smooth lighting, etc, etc. Even if you enable all of the fanciest/best graphic settings with this, the mod still gives you a huge speed performance boost. So, I highly recommend using this one instead. In fact, it has allowed people to use higher-pixel texture packs that they weren't able to use before due to the speed of their computer.
Make sure you try the Multi-Threaded "MT" version first. If you have any problems for some odd reason, you can always try the Non-Multi-Threaded version instead. The Multi-Threaded version should still work fine on your computer (including an additional performance tweak or two) even if your computer's processor is not multi-core.

I'll quote this in the OP. I forgot to put it up there but I've been using optimine/optifog for a while now and you're right, it definitely helps!
what i liked:
torches
doors (wood and iron)
furnaces, crafting bench, chests
grass (tiles very very nicely and looks good)
glowstone
water animations (yes yes yes. are they your own?)
GUI (looks excellent)
Thanks! The water animations are my own, and it took me a LONG time to make them great!
The GUI is actually borrowed until I have a chance to create one. :/
what i disliked (things that really bother me):
netherrack (looks kinda cartoon-ish)
reeds (big squares of huge reeds) texture needs a remake in my opinion. maybe smaller reeds with spaces in between them
sandstone (looks way too similar to sand).... (yes i know you told me that you are changing it) :tongue.gif:
Netherrack: what would you like it to look like? I was trying to go for the "mostly-cooled-lava" effect. I am open to suggestion :smile.gif:
reeds: they totally suck, I know! I have not been able to create one I like yet, but I will definitely focus on making one even if I have to hand draw it.
sandstone: I have added a "layering effect" to the sides of the block from images I took in Moab, and I am darkening the bottom and lightening the top.
nitpicks (just small things that bother me):
lava seems too dark
water flows too fast
bricks look too small
graininess of the textures (i know that hi-res packs run into this problem a lot, but i made an extra effort to remove as much graininess and noise from my pack as possible. if you want some tips and methods of reducing graininess ill be more than happy to explain how i do it)
lava: I made the lava a little darker than most to show that it had cooled on the surface. I actually used a picture I have from the floes in Hawaii and cross-bred it with Icelandic lava to come up with this image. I think I will keep it this dark though because I made the lava quite viscous to compensate.
water: Actually, I made the motion the exact same speed as natural water caustics and compared it against tidepool, swimming pool, and hot tub clips. It only looks fast because all the other packs retain the speed of the default minecraft water animations, which are slow.
bricks: I haven't ever thought about that, but I should measure them. A block is 1meter x 1meter x 1meter, right? I want to make it realistic, so I may have to re-image the bricks if the size of an individual brick is not in proportion. Thanks for pointing that out :smile.gif:
graininess: with the optifog/optimine mod, you can change the mipmapping to get rid of the graininess of the pack in a natural-looking way. :smile.gif:
by the way roads for minecart tracks is hillarious. i dont know if it was your intention to be funny, but i found it histerical and i loved the idea :smile.gif:
Maybe if donoteat lets me help him with a 256 moderncraft they will fit. To be honest, I don't like them and have been trying to create a nice minetrack texture.
keep at the texture making, you're doing very good work. by the way i would love to know how you did your still water animations, i would very much like something similar to it in my pack :smile.gif:
Thanks for the feedback, I love criticism on my work. I can show you how I did my animations if you want. Do you use gimp or photoshop?
Netherrack: what would you like it to look like? I was trying to go for the "mostly-cooled-lava" effect. I am open to suggestion :smile.gif:
hmmmm not sure yet. ill think about it and get back to you with a suggestion :smile.gif:
reeds: they totally suck, I know! I have not been able to create one I like yet, but I will definitely focus on making one even if I have to hand draw it.
i resorted to hand drawing almost all of my textures because working with images made me very angry :smile.gif:
lava: I made the lava a little darker than most to show that it had cooled on the surface. I actually used a picture I have from the floes in Hawaii and cross-bred it with Icelandic lava to come up with this image. I think I will keep it this dark though because I made the lava quite viscous to compensate.
i understand now why it looks the way it does, but perhaps could the hotter reddish lava peeking through the dried lava be brighter? this would add a contrast-ey look to it that might look cool :smile.gif:
water: Actually, I made the motion the exact same speed as natural water caustics and compared it against tidepool, swimming pool, and hot tub clips. It only looks fast because all the other packs retain the speed of the default minecraft water animations, which are slow.
very good point, it just seems really fast because default is so slow
bricks: I haven't ever thought about that, but I should measure them. A block is 1meter x 1meter x 1meter, right? I want to make it realistic, so I may have to re-image the bricks if the size of an individual brick is not in proportion. Thanks for pointing that out :smile.gif:
well of course there are different sized bricks in the world, but i guess its up to your preference when it comes to the scale.
graininess: with the optifog/optimine mod, you can change the mipmapping to get rid of the graininess of the pack in a natural-looking way. :smile.gif:
Try installing the optifog/optimine and running the 256x again, it increases fps exponentially and allows not so great computers to run great packs.
i will definitely check this out once i get my computer functional :smile.gif:
Maybe if donoteat lets me help him with a 256 moderncraft they will fit. To be honest, I don't like them and have been trying to create a nice minetrack texture.
that would be cool :smile.gif:
Thanks for the feedback, I love criticism on my work. I can show you how I did my animations if you want. Do you use gimp or photoshop?
no problem, its always good to get advice from a fellow texture artist. i use photoshop, ive never used gimp
I have mixed feelings about this pack. There are definitely some things I really love about it but then there are other things that I personally look for that are deal breakers for me.
Some Feedback:
The Iron Doors are awesome. However, I usually like to still have some kind of window in them so I can see through. But, I'd make an exception for these doors. The Wood Doors are pretty nice too.
I prefer smoother textures on Iron Blocks rather than ones having any kind of pattern. I use Iron Blocks for building houses, etc. So, it tends to make it not look right anymore with any kind of detailed pattern. Plus, the shading on them is just not right. There's a definite darker area that doesn't flow right through the texture and really makes it stand out in a negative way for me. Especially, when placing a few of them next to each other. Then, it really stands out.
I usually feel the same way about Gold Blocks as I do for Iron Blocks. However, I think the coloring and pattern of the Gold Blocks really work. Plus, they don't really have that same shading issue as the Iron Blocks. So, I could live with those.
Not really into the "Road" look for Mine Cart Rails personally.
The Grass is definitely some of the better grass that I have seen as it tends to blend pretty well and evenly from one block to the next neither what direction you're looking at it.
The Glowstone Blocks are a little too "Golden" color for me and also maybe a little bit dirty looking. One of the problems with the color is that it looks too close to Gold blocks especially from farther away. I also use Glowstone Blocks a lot for things like lighting and decoration. Most Glowstone Blocks just don't appeal to me. The only real Glowstone Blocks I like so far are the ones in Flow's 128 x 128 HD Texture Pack. They give off a great amount of light with a decent color and just make things shine perfectly at night giving a kind of super special-effect look to things.
The couple of pictures I have seen included seem nice. But, it seems the whole set is not there. I had a horizontal 2x1 picture show as just plain purple because there was obviously a missing picture for it.
I do like the fact that this texture pack isn't too overly dark like most texture packs tend to be.
Those are just some thoughts. I haven't looked at everything.
re: lava
i understand now why it looks the way it does, but perhaps could the hotter reddish lava peeking through the dried lava be brighter? this would add a contrast-ey look to it that might look cool :smile.gif:
That is a good idea, I think I may play with it and see what I can do. Thanks :smile.gif:
I'm not really into realism packs in general honestly, but I do like some of the individual textures (The smooth stone and the pistons look pretty nice, to be specific. I imagine there's more but you haven't shown the terrain.png on the thread so I don't know what alot of the textures are like).

NOT true. :tongue.gif:
You don't actually need the HD MCPatcher for HD Textures, HD Fonts, and/or Better Grass.
You can use the OptiFog+Optimine Mod (soon to be renamed) instead.
Yep. Other "realism" packs need to get on the ball with that :tongue.gif:
Very true. I think I may make a poll about the brick size and see what most people prefer.
I'm more familiar with gimp and making scripts on it, but I do use photoshop sometimes, especially in rendering images. I also use genetica.

I really love this pack :biggrin.gif:
Thanks!
Sorry I haven't been able to do much updating on this pack, I have been so busy with life and working on my secret minecraft project!!!
Thanks! I love feedback. What would you like to see improved in the next update?
