im pretty sure what you do is open terrain.png with a editor that supports transperancies. NOT MICROSOFT PAINT! It makes white boxes everywhere, it looks utterly terrible.
Then, once you've done that, edit to your hearts content. Once you have made your terrain, put it into a .zip file with ALL the packs files (get them from the normal one), these also include items e.t.c, so you can do that too.

But you say how to make textures, not custom portal
Well, i guess what you have to do is find the file that has the portal picture inside it, then open that up with GIMP?
Then put it together with everything or whatever, then test?
im sorry cause i have never tried to edit that :sad.gif:
The closest thing i have ever thought of is editing obsidian so the "Border" to the portal is different?
