I am wondering if anyone knows how to make a 512 texture pack supported. If anyone can help me achieve this, I have textures picked out for a lot of it.
Scuttles specifically told you it's not currently possible at the moment.
I also said it would be possible through modding. =D
In that case, this is in the wrong forum. Anyway, the game would simply have to render each texture from a minimum of 4 .png's to be allowed to have a 512x512 texture pack. x4 each time you increase a resolution size.
Well yeah... unless you're playing in a movie theater (Which would be awesome) textures larger than 64 or 128 are kind of the max perceivable by the human eye.
My 16x Painterly has always suited me fine.
From a distance, I would agree with what he said, but up close there are significant differences and it becomes quite obvious the more you analyze.
On the other hand, your mind actually is capable of subconsciously filling in the blanks and creating the illusion that the texture is of a far greater resolution than it really is. Under this circumstance it's really only possible to tell if you focus onto a specific texture instead of the whole pictures.
scuttles, I redid the rocks and minerals, and I changed the wood again, it looks really nice. and the bricks I changed, and i also changed the netherrack and glowstone. the glowstone is a fancy piece of glass that *kind of* looks like a chandelier.
I am reviving this post to mention that I am picking up where I had left off in March in designing a 512x texture pack. The pack is being revived and revamped and is unique compared to every other pack out there, based upon the original idea I had when I first posted this topic. Unfortunately, I am not the first to complete a 512x pack, but undoubt I have begun working on it, and will be releasing a teaser screenshot or two in the next week or so. :wink.gif:
I have always been one to push the limits of what is possible, and I have done it.
1024x texture pack. I am hoping to be the first to release one, and I must say: you need some serious hardware for it, but it is spectacular [at least what I have so far]. It eliminates almost completely the pixellation that occurs when standing near a block, and makes minecraft a massively impressive experience. In addition to the release of 1024x [which will be a while off, but a LOT of work has been put into it already], there will be certain modifications to the game that allow it to make more sense and have more capabilities and reason to play and explore the world of minecraft. I love Minecraft, but sorry Notch, 16bit graphics died in the 80's, and rightfully so :/
With all that said, I am going to have at least the terrain.png done within the month, with a beta test shortly thereafter.
1024x is probably the best I can run on my pc, so I may need to upgrade soon :smile.gif:
I am going to create a new topic for this when I get home, but I have a question for anyone who reads this:
Would you prefer a super-HD reality pack, rpg pack, or something else?
Please comment with what you want, and I will take every suggestion into consideration.

1024x realism would be crazy awesome. What fps do you get with 1024x? There's one guy named Aageon have high-end PC(even higher than mine) said it's impossible to run for him. I get like 120fps on Scuttles LB RPG Realsim 512x.

The trick is in how you make it :tongue.gif:
Aegeon makes awesome packs, and is part of the reason I decided to even make my original 256x pack back in the day.
If you get 120fps on Scuttle's 512 you will most certainly be able to get at least 50-60fps on mine. Add me and I'll let you be a beta tester when I get everything sorted out.
1024x Realism, eh? I like it. I think I will change a few things to make it like that.
I'm bad at coming up with names for these things :/
What kind of name would you imagine for a 1024x realism pack? If it helps, I can get some screenies together when I get some things sorted out with my other project

I don't mind being beta tester. How about "PC Killer Realism 1024x"? lol.
hmm.. i'm confused on how you guys can run x512 texture packs. i've tried it but minecraft keeps running out of memory each time i try to put it on, no matter how much RAM i've dedicated to java. (i have 6GB). can i get some tips for running it? i'd like to try it.

Use the batch file to force allocate RAM to minecraft.
Alright, I know this is probably in the wrong spot, but I think it is finally time to open this idea up to the public, and I need to recruit some people to assist in this.
I have had this idea, and have been working on it since January, roughly. [I took a long break from it because I was told 512x wasn't possible, which it wasn't at the time]
Here is the story/idea.
When you begin a new world, you do not start on the "default" minecraft that looks like earth. You begin on an alien world, which is characterized by large tall jungles with very tall trees, craters, volcanos, cliffs, canyons, large vast fields, and underground lakes. The map height will be either 256 or 512. The alien world replaces the default minecraft world [it is not another dimension, like the aether, moon mod, or mars mod]. On the alien world, there is much biofluorescence, and carnivorous plants. Vines grow up structures, and are able to be climbed. After mining down to the bowels of the planet, you can eventually mine "obsidian", which is used to create a wormhole/stargate [portal]. This wormhole/stargate takes you to: Earth! [default minecraft]. From Earth, you have the same experience as default minecraft, and can build a portal to the nether, and the Sky Dimension, once that is released. The only way back to the Alien world is through the wormhole in which you came, though. I will plan on adding more dimensions and portals to different areas as well. The alien world also has a unique type of building material that can be crafted out of one of the alien ores, and it allows for instant transportation between two points in the same plane.
This is a small summary of the mod, and I am really looking for a team that will be able to create the coding necessary for these changes. I understand that it is a HUGE overhaul, and I am looking for probably 3-6 modders that can help with the project. I have a texture team put together, but am always interested in having more talent on the team to help finish the project before the full release of minecraft. I have been working on the terrain.png for the alien world for a while now, and it is coming along nicely. I must point out that the default resolution is 512x, but I plan on making it available in other resolutions as well.

I have a name. Here: Creeper Bomb Your Comp. 1024x (Realism) I also wanted to suggest a texture. I think it would be more realistic to make the grass run down the whole block, instead of just down the side. Great work by the way.

I wish there were support for this!!!
