Nope. It changes the way the game renders blocks to either render them or not at all. Here it is. I'll go ahead and say it: This is more efficient than my texture packs could ever be. However, this x-ray mod can be detected on some servers, and will alert mods/admins/server owners when you use it. Since my texture packs are 100% clientside, you don't have to worry about that.
Easier to see without the night-vision in my opinion, but it's a heck of a lot better than the original pumpkin interface!
I do like it though, so i'm 'DLing...
I was just wondering what kind of editor you used to make this. I'm currently trying to make one of these myself, except a little more detailed. This is what i have so far:
I can explain this. I am currently using Paint as my image editor, so any "non-color areas" (The part of the image which is invisible or see-through in Minecraft) becomes the color black. The eraser tool in Paint doesn't make the erased part a "non-color area" which I was hoping for. It was literally a white color brush. So if you would test this image, the parts that I would want see-through would be white. So I want to know the image editor you used to make these "non-color areas" so I can make my own version of an X-Ray texture pack. Don't worry, I won't upload the files and make my own thread because I don't have a file-hosting account.
Please reply to me in a message (the search system, including the "view your posts" is disabled and I don't want to hunt this forum to find this post again). THANKS!
EDIT: LordTribulite, some public SMP servers do have rules that go against these texture packs. In my opinion, this isn't cheating. It's like saying the easter egg on the level "Numbers" from Call of Duty: Black Ops (where you obtain the Thundergun) is cheating. Minecraft was meant to be fiddled with. What you're saying is like saying that all things that alter Mineraft is considered cheating. So now changing your character skin is cheating? Adding a mod to the game like Mo' Creatures is cheating? All these kind of texture packs do are giving you a different look on the game. Maybe we can see the Diamonds underground, but who says that all of us are going to exploit this to our advantage? I say that this is NOT cheating.
Your response of 'You can find ore on the other side of the map' is quite rediculous - I play on a multiplayer server to interact with other players, not run as far away from civilisation as possible to start mining. And many servers apply a size-limit to prevent the server having such a large world.
I don't find it ridiculous at all. Use an x-ray texture pack once- just once. Ores and caves are more common than you think. It's just a matter of taking the time and effort to look for them- and, in many cases, a lot of luck, since you might walk right past a cave without noticing it if you approached it from an unlucky angle where you end up not seeing it. Besides, "on the other side of the map" is an odd way of putting it. The map is almost infinitely generated in four directions. You don't have to run as far away from civilisation as possible. Consider the chunk of land your character is currently standing in as the center of a 3x3 area of 9 chunks. There's very nearly a 100% chance that there are several deposits of ores beneath this area. You make it sound like there isn't a single ore to be found in your average 10x10 area of chunks when that simply isn't true at all.
As for the issues you've had with people on that PvP server of yours, I will apologize for that person's actions on their behalf. The very first result when googling "x-ray pack," "x-ray texture pack," "minecraft x-ray pack," "minecraft x-ray texture pack," etc. is an old thread of mine, now locked, leading to this thread. Whenever I hear about stuff like this, I can't help but feel partially responsible, even if there's no way of knowing whether or not it was one of these x-ray texture packs of mine that assisted them in giving someone else a hard time.
But I think I've finally got just the solution for it. I'm off to go work on it.
Edit: Or not. Just noticed all the replies in this thread. But, soon.

No, that is largely nonsense.
The diamond pickaxe and other diamond tools are a feature of the game. While these tools are very powerful and make life in minecraft a lot easier. But these cannot be acquired just like that, you have to find loads of ores before you can make these powerful tools. It is like levelling in an RPG. And you still have to find and mine ores to make more stuff once you have them.
This however, is a third party mod. It takes advantage of the system and bends it to serve a purpose it wasn't meant for. This is called exploiting, which is a form of cheating. That is not an opinion.
In the same way would texturing the enemies to be more visible be cheating.
It may be available to download for everyone who comes here, but that doesn't mean everyone can and will find it. In a multiplayer situation this gives an unfair advantage to the one using this mod over the ones who are not. Therefore it is unfair in multiplayer.
Do not lie to yourself and others by saying this is not cheating, because it is.
Edit2: Huh. I could've sworn I fully addressed this in the F.A.Q. already, but I only partially did. Well, now I have- fully.
"If you want to 'cheat' in multiplayer, why play with others and spoil everyone elses fun along with your own?"
Because some people don't see it as spoiling other peoples' fun when it literally has no direct effect on anyone but the person using it. I, personally, enjoy going out of my way to help others on SMP servers with such things as these, because it's always worth hearing that "thanks :)" or seeing that relief as they dig around a tunnel which had a creeper in it that they couldn't see.
Also, seeing as how this pack is publicly available, that's no different from you choosing to use an iron pickaxe when you have a ready supply of diamond in a chest of yours, then voicing how unfair it is that other people you're playing with are choosing to use diamond pickaxes. It's your choice to self-impose that unfairness, which, in my opinion, isn't unfair in the slightest since, again, anyone can use it/them. As it's your choice not to use it/them, you have no one to blame but yourself. In any case, you're here now and aware that this pack exists. If you're going to claim that it's unfair that not everyone knows of its existence on the servers you play on, it's your choice not to inform them. Again, you have no one but yourself to blame for choosing to withhold this information from your fellow players on the servers you play on.
While it can take hours working from scratch to gain enough diamonds for a single diamond pickaxe in Minecraft, it only takes seconds in Google to find tools like these x-ray texture packs. Diamonds are in the game, but it doesn't mean everyone can and will end up finding some as quickly as they want. These texture packs can be added into the game, but it doesn't mean everyone can and will find them, whether on their own or with your help. But if your argument is, "These packs are unfair because they're harder to find than diamonds," then look back a couple of sentences on how I just proved that to be false.
The rest of your arguments are also addressed in the F.A.Q, the sections describing why it's silly to argue over the internet about, "This is how I think the game should be played, stop disagreeing with me!"
Taco - Look in the F.A.Q. for more information regarding this post.
Midnight - Glad you enjoyed it!
There, everything taken care of. Now to get to work.
There. Updated the packs in a way I'm sure everyone will like. The appearance of chests have now been changed to resemble cobblestone, so even if a would-be thief using this pack sees a chest hidden in someone's wall, they probably won't take the time to smash their way through the wall and check to see if it's a chest or not. Also, the link to the transparent cobblestone pack- which still has solid chests in it- still exists, but is no longer being publicly advertised. It was meant to help server moderators/administrators/owners find and catch thieves, but I have no way of knowing whether it was doing more good than bad. As such, the link is no longer there. However, I'm still willing to hand out the link on a case-by-case basis.
For server moderators/administrators/owners who are having issues with thieves on your servers and need help catching them, but can't/don't want to add chest-protecting plugins, let me know in this thread, and I'll give you the link to a separate pack featuring transparent cobblestone and solid chests. Great for finding hidden chests that thieves may have hidden, but also easy to abuse by finding chests that innocent players have hidden. That's why there's only one pack being advertised now- the one with solid cobblestone and chests disguised as cobblestone.
Edit: Two hours late on the upload due to internet connectivity issues.
Clearly you don't understand a word I'm saying. I could have known it was useless to try to convince you that this is cheating since you don't want to be convinced.
>You actually come up with an argument that I forgot to fully address in the F.A.Q, exceeding all expectations

IMO the green does on the side of grass are just confusing and ugly.
P.S. That's one hell of an OP.
P.S. They're organized in such a basic way that anyone should be able to determine exactly why those marks exist on the side of grass, dirt, sand and gravel blocks. They're there so that when you're deep underground, relying on artificial sunlight being filtered in through several layers of solid stone to see, you'll be able to see that the blocks you're trying to clear should be cleared with a shovel. And they can all be distinguished from one another- sand/gravel/[dirt/grass]- for minor, situation-specific reasons. I figured you'd catch onto that, but I guess I just expect too much from you.
didnt this thread have 2 versions earlier? 1 with transparent cobble, and 1 without? I'd like the one with transparent cobble.
What would you like it for? I'm still feeling iffy about the whole, "Hey, I'm deciding to delete that link" decision, so let me hear what you think about it. Do your best to convince me that the transparent cobblestone pack not only does more good than harm, but that there's also has a significant difference in how much good is done in comparison to the pack that features solid cobblestone.

First of all, I approve (with what you said and your texture pack)!
Second of all, MLP!!!!
Third of all, thanks for taking the time to make this epic pack. :smile.gif:

I hope you know night vision doesn't work. It just makes everything gray and harder to see. It's like putting on sunglasses at night.
Cool idea though.
I hope you know it does. It makes everything brighter by overlapping a gray film with loads of transparency on it so you can see through it. Obviously, you never used it or even looked at the screenshots. You just read about it and assumed it wouldn't work. Must have one hell of a social life to be stalking someone over the internet on the weekend. 0/10, try harder and keep the bumps coming, stalker.

I don't know why you're being such an ass but I did look at the screenshots and I did use it in-game. If you overlay a white layer on something, it won't make what is behind it brighter. It decreases the contrast and saturation. Like I said, it's like wearing white sunglasses at night.

I stopped reading there. No one's stupid enough to legitimately be confused about, "I don't understand why you're insulting me back when all I've done is insult you, and am now stalking you." It's impossible for someone to be that mentally deficient.
Gee, it sure is my night vision not working in here! Keep the bumps coming and keep arguing about things you know nothing about.
