I would have to go with the wool cubes, mainly because sand and gravel are already elements in the dungeon I'm working on. And the rat-hole things (with the writing on the walls) might not look right without sand.

Agreed. For now, the companion cube and the normal cube will be wool (if we get some cool blocks later in Minecraft's development, that could potentially change. But it'll be good enough for now). Updated.

Cool, I'm looking forward to it. =) Did you switch the gold and lightstone textures? I have nothing against that, of course, but if you want me to post the thread link on the main page, people might not know that they have to change those textures for your dungeon. They'd probably just use whatever version of the pack I have up (unless you tell them to do otherwise).

No i just hid torches on the back side of the gold blocks to make it look like they are glowing everything is off of how you have it set up and will be changed accordingly with each update, which wool is which block? i already have a companion cube down as a pumpkin is that still a companion cube or do i need to change it to wool?

The companion cube is now pink wool, and the normal cube is lime wool (since those two wools are relatively easy to come by, and I don't mind giving up the personality cubes for them). This change had to be made so that Precisely Portal could have a normal cube as well as a companion cube. So the cubes don't glow anymore, but it's more realistic that way.

I don't know if anyone's posted this, but it seems as though moss stone gives you wallhacks... intentional?
Moss stone is supposed to be a grate. If used correctly, it won't show through walls and you can get a nice effect that resembles portal. I admit, though, that if you stumble across a dungeon it looks a bit weird...
Maybe Minecraft will get an actual grate in the future. Until then, we'll use moss stone for that.
Well, yeah. If you don't use it right it shows through the walls. ...so that's why you have to be careful with that particular block. But luckily it's the only block in the pack that has that problem.
Great pack! I do have some problems with it, though, and I dont know if you plan to fix nay of these in the future.
I think you need to change the torches so they look more.....you know.... Arperture-ish, with no smoke or flame, maybe a blue-teal glow or something. I also think there needs to be portal-esque items and tools, and not just the basic ones. Great job though :biggrin.gif:!
oky i can't figure out which blocks are the metal blocks that portals can't be shot on, can someone help me out please?
oh, and as a suggesttion, i don't know if it will be possible but what about making the wooden pressure plates look like the red buttons? i say the wooden ones cause i'm already using some of the stone ones as hidden switches
if it's not possible though then oh well, cause i think it might use the same texture as whatever you make the wooden planks

Cool. I'll have to try it out a bit later (since school is pretty busy right now), but I'll update the name on the post. Woo!

Unfortunately, pressure pads automatically take the texture of the wood/stone. So in order to have a red pressure pad, I'd have to make either wood or stone red. I'm not sure if I want to do that for the Precisely Portal pack, yet. I have to choose between two-block walls or one block walls with red buttons. ...although I admit that sounds pretty enticing. User feedback, guys? I don't want to drastically mess up any dungeons your working on, so what do you think? Are red buttons more important than the two-block high walls?
The "metal blocks that portals can't be shot on" are the black, grey, and light grey wools.

I've been thinking about those things... The torches will definitely need some changing in the future, and I do want the items to blend in a bit more... those sort of changes might take me a while, but I am planning on doing something about them eventually.
Hmmm....
Honestly, I'm fine with the black buttons. Even though they're not red like in the game, they still feel Portal-ish. I like my two block high walls :smile.gif:
Also, not to be harsh, but screw other people's dungeons. Just do what's right for the texture pack.

Honestly, I had actually forgotten about wooden pressure pads (since I always use stone ones in my own constructions). Since black pads are an option, I agree with you that it's good enough for now. Red buttons would be nice, but not at the expense of having red stone when we can just as easily have a black pad show up nicely.
Doing "what's right for the texture pack" is preferred, of course, but I am willing to take a lot of user feedback on the packs and what you might/might not enjoy (as long as you guys aren't mean about it). "Precisely Portal" was made for the general public, whereas the "Modified Portal" pack was made more because I wanted it... so I do want to make sure that most of the users can enjoy the pack. That's why I'm pretty open to suggestions, because I want to make a pack that 95% of the users will be satisfied with.
Of course, you guys are more than welcome to customize the pack to fit your own needs/dungeon/whatever. Just link back to this thread and don't claim the textures for your own (I've put a lot of time into this, so I would appreciate that). Thank you!
i forgot that the wooden ones would show up black, the red was just a suggestion but the black will work nicely, and like i said it was just a suggestion anything can be worked around, build to your paramters and use what you've got
Update: I skinned some of the tools and simplified the dyes. Both packs have an update out.
I know it doesn't look like I did much on the tools, but a LOT of work went into these. I made far too many rough drafts and bad-looking ideas until these ones turned out okay, so hopefully they're portal-esque enough.
The scene in the above image is another semi-peek at the Enrichment Center I'm working on. That's not one of the most challenging puzzels, I admit... it was really more like an empty floor that needed something less boring. So random lava and water puddles spruced up the place a bit.
The style is really nice, great work!

But... it does show through walls... put it on the ground and look down at it. You'll see what I mean.

Thank you for making the first one! I really do enjoy it. (And I'm very glad you're not upset that I modified the pack. Whew!)
